A conversation with Olivia Hardin, author of 'All for Hope'

Please welcome prolific author Olivia Hardin back to the blog today. She took time out of her busy schedule to talk to me a bit more about her writing style and some current works.

What was the inspiration behind 'All for Hope'?
I actually don’t remember. A lot of my stories begin as flashes of dreams that stick with me and my mind insists that I put them to paper. I wrote the original draft of this story about 15 years ago and I just can’t put my finger on how I came up with it.
How much do you feel you have in common with Hope?
In some ways I think I have a lot in common with her. I tend to jump in head first to help people. My boss is always reminding me that no good deed goes unpunished. But in one way I know I’m not like her. I wouldn’t have been able to keep my distance from someone I was so clearly mutually attracted to. I don’t think I have that much self-control.
Which character was the most fun to write?
I really liked Guillory actually. It was interesting to get little tidbits of his character along the way.
Which scene is your favorite?
I enjoyed the scene when Bren and Hope first find the cottage. I felt Hope’s enthusiasm and all that she envisioned about that little run down place.
Hope's actions to save baby Michelle are quite drastic, yet I could see someone doing it. I don't think I would go that far to save a child, but who knows? Do you think you would have it in you to do the same?
Actually I don’t know that I would. I’m a legal assistant do although I’m well aware of the failings of the judicial system, I think I would have tried to work the system a little harder before I took those drastic measures. But if they didn’t work, it’s hard to say what a desperate person might do.
Will we ever see Hope and her family again?
Yes! I have at least two ideas for spin-off stories that would of course feature Hope and Bren and the others.
I know you best as a paranormal author, whereas this book is more of a suspenseful romance. In what genres are you most comfortable writing?
I’m probably most comfortable with paranormal because it’s my world, my creatures, my rules. I don’t have to worry about getting hung up on whether I got something right.
What moves you to write one kind of book over another?
The story or the characters speak to me. I tend to focus on one story at a time, though if I get an idea I might put enough down so that I can get back to it. When I was younger I wrote a lot of historical stories. Now I seem to focus on paranormal. Maybe I just go through phases… hahaha!
You are a prolific writer, with another book being released soon. What can you tell us about this and some of your other projects?
Tangled Up In Trouble is the second in my MAUCs Series. It’s an Urban Fantasy story about a witch names Lynlee who is a Neutralizer. She helps keep Magical and Undead Creatures (MAUCs) out of trouble. This is a light, funny series with some great characters and some romance too!
My fellow writers and I were just having a discussion about that evil way in which those perfectly plotted novels that appear in your dreams often disappear as soon as you wake up. You are prone to having dreams about your books. How do you manage to hold onto the ideas in that Neverland between slumber and consciousness?
If it is a really good dream it gets me all excited. So as soon as I wake up with that feeling I replay the dream over and over and over in my mind so it won’t vanish. And as soon as I can I get some of it on paper so that I can save it for later.
Is there anything else you would like to share with us?
Just keep an eye on me because I have big plans over the next twelve months. I’ve got the new For Love of Fae Trilogy starting a at the end of this year which is a spin-off of the Bend-Bite- Shift Trilogy plus some more shorts and other books.
Thank you so much for your time!

About the Author

Olivia Hardin realized early on how strange she was to have complete movie-like character dreams as a child. Eventually she began putting those vivid dreams to paper and was rarely without her spiral notebooks full of those mental ramblings. Her forgotten vision of becoming an author was realized when she connected with a group of amazingly talented and fabulous writers who gave her lots of direction and encouragement. With a little extra push from family and friends, she hunkered down to get lost in the words. She’s also an insatiable crafter who only completes about 1 out of 5 projects, a jogger who hates to run, and is sometimes accused of being artistic, though she’s generally too much of a perfectionist to appreciate her own work. A native Texas girl, Olivia lives in the beautiful Lone Star state with her husband and their puppy Bonnie.
