**My thoughts**

This was a fun and quick romantic read that I managed to polish off in between opening gifts and eating dinner on Christmas day. All Jen wants is to start fresh, though Hollywood isn't quick to allow stars to do so. Especially those who have had some very public nosedives.

You feel sorry for Jen, as she genuinely seems to want to start fresh. You're immediately drawn to Gunner, just as much as she is. As soon as he lets his own secret slip to her, you can't help but to love him even more and to root for them to work things out. This is better than reading the gossip columns!

Now that I have read this book, I am eager to check out some of Sasha's other books.

**My thoughts**

I fell in love with Lily, from almost the first page. I found her a relataable character, as we are the same age and hail from the same state. I may not have a 12 year-old son, but I am fiercely protective of my students and friends' kids. I appreciate her drive and desire to only do what is right for her son. I guess the biggest differences between us are that I am not destined to be a vampire hunter and I don't have two hottie vampire cousins fighting over me. (At least not to my knowledge!)

I love how Lily is already a strong character, even before she finds out about her destiny. The truth about her past and her future simply amplifies what is already a part of her. She finds a way to embrace it all on her own terms. The hard part seems to be figuring out where her true loyalties lie in her heart. She has two amazing vampires who are madly in love with her and who seek to care for her. You won't really know for sure whom she chooses until the very end.

The whole book is action-packed and keeps you guessing through its twists and turns. It has plenty of romance that implies sex scenes, instead of steamy play-by-play descriptions that can turn off some readers. The focus is on the story, and it's a good one. 

I hope Lily has some more adventures, because she is definitely one of my new favorite heroines.

Inspirational Music for 'Life and Death of Lily Drake'

When I am writing, I like to either be in total silence, or random music on in the background. My tastes vary and are unpredictable. I asked author T. Michelle Nelson what kind of playlist she had while working on her latest book The Life and Death of Lily Drake.

Music Playlists

I’ve had so many people ask what music I listen to when I write.  Many authors these days are putting playlists up on their websites of songs that served as inspiration as they worked on their novels.  I suppose I may be a bit weird, but I despise any noise while I’m working.  I’ve always hated any sound while I try to concentrate it makes me completely insane.

That being said, music does often serve as inspiration to me when I’m not actually typing on a manuscript.  A song might be playing in the car and I will immediately envision a character doing a certain action.  Maybe it’s a slow song and characters are dancing or falling in love. 

For Life and Death of Lily Drake, there was plenty of music that inspired me.  I listened to a ton of Otis Redding and Etta James during that time.  Also some Nina Simone.  But not all of my book playlist music was oldies, I happen to love some Foo Fighters.  I find Dave Grohl’s lyrics to be incredibly inspiring. 

If you’ve read my novel, you know the main character Lily is a bit of an 80’s hair band fan, so during many of her shenanigans I picture some Motley Crue, Guns n Roses or KISS playing in the background.  I won’t deny it, I’m a hair band girl too.

For the Love of a Vampire

What is it that is so damn appealing about vampires? I am still trying to figure this out, after almost a year of finally reading vampire books.

As legend has it, I hadn't read anything about vampires, other than Dracula. I first read it back in junior high for my English class. Yeah, I enjoyed it, but I wasn't enrapture by it. I managed to avoid True Blood and Twilight. I did try to watch TB on HBO once and I hated it within a minute. I felt dirty even thinking about trying to read or watch Twilight. I still can't make myself do it.

And then, I finally succumbed to Jennifer Malone Wright's frequent posts about her book The Vampire Hunter's Daughter Part 1 always being free on Amazon. I thought I would just get it over with, read it, hate it, and review it and be done. I pulled it out while the man was seeking the perfect street hockey sneakers. I finished it before he had even selected a pair. I was hooked.

I went home and I continued to download the series. I teased Jenn mercilessly about hooking me in. I was secretly annoyed, yet intrigued at the same time.

And then Christie Silvers was looking for beta readers for her Liz Baker series. I was home sick and stayed up half of the night reading the first book. The second and third soon followed. Okay, a new fan was born.

Recently I have gotten into H.P. Mallory's books. I'm working on a few other similar types of series. I am willing to take some of them for reviewing. I enjoy the stories, but I just don't see why vampires are sexy. The only thing I can figure out is that they can hypnotize you, therefore making you fall into deep lust.

What am I missing, vampire fans?
