Cover Reveal! 'Triangulating Bliss' by Janelle Jalbert

TRIANGULATING BLISS

by Janelle Jalbert

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
A struggling veteran reads about the mysterious death of a local athlete and wants to learn more. He meets the owner of the business linked to the crime and discovers others have “disappeared”.
All stories include a man with dark hair, blue eyes, and a strong jaw.
Then, it’s his turn.
The mysterious forces at Bliss change everything. What brought them all to Bliss is not as it appears and their lives are powerfully interconnected across space and time.
Read an excerpt:
Greg opened the backdoor to Bliss. He forced himself to stop thinking about how the name of the place made him think of a day spa rather than a barbeque joint. The tell-tale wood smoke greeted him, causing his stomach to growl and suspending his thoughts about the name of the place. Musical chimes sounded above the door as Greg’s eyes adjusted from the glare of the fall sun to the darkened interior.
Figures, he thought. Why wouldn't there be chimes at a place called Bliss?
Once his eyes adjusted, the bar area didn't seem to be out of the ordinary. Greg stopped at the partition just inside the door. It was covered with a list of sayings:
Follow Your Bliss
Happiness Is an Inside Job
Be Careful What You Wish For
There's No Better Time to Claim the Future You Want Than Now
A half-laugh escaped him. He thought it was a menu board at first and the philosophizing caught him off guard. Still, the final statement hit close to home, and he took a deep breath.
Greg headed to the long black bar. A smaller party room was to the right with about a dozen tables to the left. It had the feel of a contemporary jazz club or maybe a speakeasy. Beyond the tables, bright daylight streamed into the lounge from a passage between the front diner area and the bar. No creepy Twilight Zone feeling here, he thought.
Two muted, flat screen TVs hung on either side of the wood shelves stocked with bottles of all sizes. He eyed the taps and sports coverage while surveying the place. Though there were no windows in the back area, yet it didn't feel claustrophobic. Between the lighting, mirrors and glass, there was elegance to the place that radiated a different type of light. Poster-sized black and white pictures hung on the walls, showing the history of the place. Greg guessed they were from the 1940's. Smaller pictures of patrons and notable artifacts related to "Our Place" dotted the walls. Greg knew from his early research that Our Place was the name of the restaurant until a few years earlier.
Greg settled in, still getting a sense of the place, when a woman with graying dark hair approached him. Though he talked with Lois on the phone, this was the first time he saw her. She was not remarkably tall, but definitely commanded the bar and carried herself in a way that betrayed her real age. She had a look of knowing, or maybe it was just cheer that she had a customer on a dead afternoon.
'The Vanished Lady' by Loretta Jackson and Vickie Britton
Blurb:
Dana Lawrence doesn’t imagine when she buys the quaint Victorian house in the remote mountains of Colorado that her life will soon be in danger. She has heard the legend of Lelia Glenn and how she vanished in the 1800’s, but no one told her about the more recent disappearance of Amy Walden two years ago.
On the night of her arrival, Dana spies someone digging on her land. The sheriff tells her that on the day Amy disappeared Glenndale’s jewelry store was robbed. Amy’s boyfriend, Donnie Thorpe, is still on the run, and his accomplice, Jed Hoyt, has just been released from prison. Bennett believes a third party masterminded the robbery--her handsome neighbor, Logan Rand.
While Dana tries to beat the thieves to the stolen goods, she uncovers a grave. Threats and attempts on her life follow in rapid succession. Dana must identify the killer before she becomes the next vanished lady.
Read an excerpt:
...My new home. Her heart sank as she realized the enormity of the task she had taken on so impetuously. Her gaze wandered over the faded wallpaper, the water stains on the ceiling, the threadbare carpet. Everywhere she looked she saw major repairs that vied for immediate attention, repairs that would in the end call for much more money than she could access.
But on the bright side, Dana could tackle most of the work alone, only hiring an electrician or plumber when necessary. She would definitely need help repairing the badly damaged floor near the staircase. Once more she felt overwhelmed, as if she had set for herself an impossible goal no one person would ever be able to accomplish. But she had no choice other than to succeed. For better or worse, the Vanished Lady Inn now belonged to her.
Because of the deep silence, the sudden creaking of boards outside the front door caused her to start. She froze for a moment, thinking of the blackness of the night, of the total isolation. Footsteps sounded across the porch, then ceased.
She approached the door, her gaze falling on the tall, shadowy outline of a lone man.
From the Authors:
My sister and I have always loved to explore historic homes, and in Colorado we came across many lovely houses called "Painted Ladies". The term "painted lady" has a double meaning. It is used to refer to "soiled doves" or fallen women of the Old West, who painted their faces as opposed to respectable women who did not use cosmetics. Though the terms are unrelated, houses of that same era which are painted in a multi-colored scheme, the showy peacocks of architecture, are also referred to as "Painted Ladies". Many of these historic homes throughout the United States have been remodeled and turned into bed and breakfasts. And most of them have a tragic tale or a ghost or two. This fictional tale set in Colorado centers around such a secret.
'Walkin' on the Sun (The Official Smash Mouth Biography)' by Paul DeLisle plus #Giveaway
walkin on the sun blog tour banner
Who hasn't rocked out to the music of Smash Mouth?! Now you can go behind the music with a band that carried the spirit of a generation in Walkin' on the Sun; The Official Smash Mouth Biography.
IMG_1194.JPGHello. My name is Paul DeLisle. I’m the guy who wrote this book. You've probably never heard of me. That's okay. Most people wouldn't know me from Adam. But, unless you've been living in a cloistered monastery for the last fifteen years, you have heard of my band.
          So begins the memoir of the creation, rise, and current state of the multi-platinum recording artist Smash Mouth as told by bassist Paul DeLisle. Well known for their hits “All Star,” “Walking on the Sun,” “Then the Morning Comes,” “Can’t Get Enough of You Baby,” and “I’m a Believer,” the band carried the spirit of a generation, but didn't stop there. Enjoy this behind-the-scenes look from Paul’s unique, there from the start, insider’s view.
smashmouth
Excerpt:
There's an episode of Cheers where washed-up ball player Sam Malone, frustrated with either Diane or Rebecca, proclaims, "Y'know, most people don't know this ... but I’m famous!"
I love that line. I can totally relate. You see, I am a founding and continued member of the band Smash Mouth. Yet I am, proudly and alas, the bass player. I’m not famous. My band is.
From the beginning, Smash Mouth was set up as a democracy between four musicians and a manager, each player having an equal voice on band matters. Yet we were all fully aware and accepting of the fact that, as lead singer/frontman, Steve Harwell would be getting a disproportionate amount of attention. Seeing as he is the face and mouthpiece of Smash Mouth, you may be a little disappointed he didn't write this book.
But stay with me here. Because as you'll see, I have a unique vantage point: as one of only four original constituents, I’ve been involved in every aspect of the band since day one. Only Steve and I have trod every step of this Smash Mouth journey. Also, while traditionally under-recognized, the bass player himself sees everything. Plus I went to college. Who better to write a book about Smash Mouth?
That said, keep in mind this book is solely from my point of view. Steve, Greg, Kevin, and Robert would obviously have different takes on certain events. However, this book is simply intended as a comprehensive account of our rise to fame and continued success.
So without further ado ... here’s what happened:
EEP!!! How awesome is that! Pick up your copy of Walkin' on the Sun today and get your own "backstage pass" to the world of Smash Mouth!
Why do people love Neil Gaiman?
By pinguino k from North Hollywood, USA (Neil Gaiman) [CC BY 2.0 (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/2.0)], via Wikimedia Commons
What is it about English author Neil Gaiman that is so attractive to so many people?
Perhaps it is his ability to create magical worlds that seem as real as the one in which we actually live. His fantasies come to life. We can see ourselves walking alongside his characters, experiencing everything they do. We can relate to them, no matter what form they take. We learn from them.
Perhaps it is the many forms in which his work exists. His spectrum of works appeals to a broad audience. He writes novels. Some of his work has been adapted into movies. He creates graphic novels and comics.
Perhaps it is the way he speaks. Some swoon over his voice, others his words. He captivates his audience in person, just as much as his books do.
Perhaps it is just his wisdom. Neil Gaiman quotes are rampant as memes on Facebook and other social media sites. Check out 16 of his best ones:
#KindleCountdown 'The Murder Motif: An Austin, Texas Art Mystery (Michelle Hodge Series)' by Roslyn Woods
Blurb:
When Shell Hodge moves to Austin, she is ready to start a new life as a single woman with her focus squarely on her art career. After reuniting with her best friend Margie and renting a house from Margie’s older brother Dean, Shell believes life will be as uncomplicated as moving in and getting back to her painting. But Margie’s older brother is distractingly handsome, and he has a charming dog that wins her heart. More importantly, a murder charge is looming over Dean, and trying to find the real killer is drawing Shell into a world of intrigue and danger.
Read an excerpt:
Please don’t let there be snakes, she thought as she sank to a sitting position in the grass. Just sit here and wait. It was a good hiding place. The car was visible, but even so, it was just too dark to see much else. In the distance the water bubbled along. Occasionally she heard a truck or car passing noisily on the bridge overhead. She thought of her mother then, and how she wouldn’t want her to be doing this. Help me, Mom. Help me, Lana. She sat there pondering over the fact that she didn’t really believe in the supernatural but that she always seemed to pray when she was scared or worried.
It seemed an eternity before she heard the squishy sound of wet feet trudging near her hiding place. Don’t find me. Don’t find me! She could see him by the light of the bridge overhead now. Kojak. He stopped in the darkness and looked intensely into the brambles for a moment. Shell held her breath while her heart thudded against her ribs.
“Who’s there?” he called. Surely he could hear her heart beating. Surely he would see her in a moment.
'Fractured, Not Broken' by Kelly Schaefer Blast & Giveaway
Fractured Tour Banner
Fractured-KINDLEA Real Life Story of Heroic Virtue
Parts of this memoir appeared on ESPN and in Rosie
Warsaw, Indiana
July 08, 2015
Award-winning and best-selling author, Michelle Weidenbenner, announces the release of Kelly Schaefer’s memoir, Fractured Not Broken.
Years ago, parts of Kelly’s story appeared on ESPN and in Rosie, but now Kelly reveals the rest of the story in her new book, Fractured Not Broken.
Nineteen-year-old Kelly had it all—a healthy and athletic body, a star basketball-player boyfriend, and a fun college life with close friends.
But everything changed when a drunk driver rendered her a quadriplegic.
Kelly was left with arms and legs that couldn’t move. She couldn’t walk, write, feed herself or comb her hair. When she thought she couldn’t lose anything more—her boyfriend left her, unwilling to endure a life with a quad.
Through her darkest days of loss and pain, her family and community gathered together to push her forward, to help her persevere. With their help, Kelly moved closer to God and toward a faith she’d never had.
“Miracles come in many obscure moments,” Kelly said. “I spent most of my life awaiting my big break. I expected my miracle to be in the form of a pill, injection, or surgery that would enable my spine to heal and give me the mobile freedom I prayed for, but that didn’t happen.
“Kristen Jongen’s quote says it all:
“‘My miracle came unannounced, and in an odd package. It looked different from what I imagined--untimely, unexpected, unpretentious--yet it fit perfectly. Divinely constructed solely for me.’"
Fractured Not Broken is a memoir of loss and faith, but it’s also a love story that sounds like fiction.
“Life has its tragic moments of defeat, setbacks, and fracturing for everyone. Kelly's story proves, however, that individual momentum, personal progress, and genuine achievement can still be attained. Her courage and optimism are uplifting. Open these pages and experience the joy of ultimate victory.” —Dr. Dennis E. Hensley, Author of Jesus in All Four Seasons
“This book has been a true encouragement to me. Thank you Kelly for sharing your story— the loss and the unexpected joy— so that each reader can be uplifted knowing there is a full, rich life available to those who lean in to our Lord Jesus.” —Renee Bondi, Award-Winning Singer and Songwriter
“This is a real life story of heroic virtue—especially of courage, humility, and generosity—a triumph of faith, hope and love. This story involves the very essence of the human spirit, family, and community. To know Kelly and her journey of miracles is to know that with God all things are possible.” —Most Reverend Charles C. Thompson Bishop of Evansville
This book will fracture the paradigms of the goals and expectations we set for ourselves and others. Kelly’s words will change how readers think of people with disabilities and bring hope to readers who have lost faith in finding true love. Weidenbenner’s other novels include Cache a Predator, Scattered Links, and an early chapter book series for girls called Éclair.
Kelly is a teacher, speaker, Young Life mentor and a Skittles lover. She brings fun to her classroom and inspires others every day with her faith and positive attitude.
Michelle, her aunt, feels blessed to be the one to write and share Kelly’s story. Although this is Michelle’s first nonfiction project, it was heart-felt inspired like her novels.
Review of 'Exchange Rate (Worth of Souls #2)' by Bonnie R. Paulson
WORTHOFSOULSbooktour
Check out the Book Trailer. Bonnie R Paulson plays the mother!!
Cost of Survival, Book #1
COSfrontAnger isn’t an emotion anymore, it’s more of a survival mode I can’t afford to let go.
My dad predicted World War III would happen in his life, but he died two years before… with my brother…
…before Mom and I walked in search of refuge from the bombing.
Strengthened by her faith, Mom never feels alone. But me? I don’t know what to believe or where to turn. Someone once said keep your friends close and your enemies closer, but I disagree. Friends scare me the most. They know me and my mom. Nothing about them is safe.
The ones in charge… Control everything…
Crud, I’ve started crying because I’m scared I won’t survive World War III. But a bigger part of me is scared I will.
My mom is bleeding in my arms and she’s making me promise to follow her three rules.
Pray. Don’t trust anyone. Stay alive.
How long do I need to break all three?
Exchange Rate, Book #2
exchangerateI’m pregnant and I couldn’t be more excited. But the community Bodey, his dad, and I live in has rules. Rules that make Mom’s rules seem like safety nets.
Only 200 people are allowed at a time. My baby will make it 201.
The leader is making me choose someone from our house to die so there will be room for my child. Either I make the decision or they take… my…
Even in the craziness that the world has become, I refuse to believe only 200 can live in it at once.
The “community” is safe-ish, comfortable. We have food, warmth, and there isn’t immediate danger of being robbed while we sleep.
Doesn’t it make sense we’d have to exchange something for all that?
I’ve survived this long. Maybe that’s enough. Maybe I should die so my family can live. Or maybe I can get through the lines and find a people worth sacrificing for.
**My thoughts**
The pace in this installment slows down considerably, but you can't help but keep on turning the pages. I cannot fathom the horror that Kelly and her family must be feeling at this time. They think they have found some kind of sanctuary. They should be celebrating this most joyous occasion in their lives. Yet, they seem to have found the same kind of craziness from which they were running outside of the compound. In some ways, it is even worse, because these people are theoretically the sane ones in charge of the New World.
Kelly has matured a great deal in the past 16 months. She hasn't had a choice. Yes, she is now a "married" woman who is pregnant. She has been on the run with her family, still trying to hide from people who want her dead. She has seen and experienced horrors that I cannot imagine.
While her routine in this compound seems to be more mundane, she is also showing that she has become a deeper thinker. She more closely examines her own place in society. She reflects more on the lessons her mother taught her. She really questions how one man can determine the worth of one human being over another. How can we make those decisions? And again, men are trying to dominate the women, throwing us back several decades.
Again, I found myself contemplating what I would do if I were in her situation. Would I be able to embrace those comforts in life, even though at any moment I could be deemed unworthy of living and easily replaced? Would I be able to stand by quietly and watch others be murdered and/or abused? Or would I give it all up and run away? How much worth is my life vs. a life with material comfort? How would any faith that I have be shaken?
As with the first book, I have to love a book that stays with me even after I am finished reading it, and one that makes me really think about my own life. It's just fiction, but who is to say that some day some kind of situation like this won't be upon us? Looking forward to the resolution in book 3.
Worth of Souls, Book #3
WOSfront Running for my life and six months pregnant, I’m terrified but confident in my decisions.With my love and family behind me, captured by the same man who chases me, I have only a small window to find help. The baby needs to come out eventually. Nobody said the end of the world would define people so much. Everywhere I turn I have to prove my worth.Mom was gone before I learned my value lay in my eyes. Not others.
But how would that save Bodey? How could my worth change how the world me spins?If I can’t figure it out, everyone I love will die, trapped in a place where even following the rules won’t protect us.
'The Zombie Truth: The Apocalypse Has Begun' by Vincent St. Vincent
When every province of the world so teems with inhabitants that they can neither subsist where they are nor remove themselves elsewhere… the world will purge itself in one or another of these three ways floods, plague and famine.— Niccolo Machiavelli
The hoof prints of The Four Horsemen are fossilized in the time line of human history. The Biblical flood. The Great Famines. The Bubonic Plague. World War II. In between these events, we like to pretend The Horsemen never existed at all, but deep inside, we know. We know that not only did they exist… They’re coming again. Clip clop in our dreams—those nightmares that slip away from our brains like fine sand through a sieve the moment after we awaken. Clip clop in the night when the lights flicker off and darkness surrounds us, a still-unevolved part of our minds convinced of the danger no matter how our civilized, rational selves try to suppress it. Clip clop in our movies, books, and art—leaking from that primal, subconscious warning system into our conscious, creative imaginations.
Clip clop. Do you hear it now? Clip clop, clip clop. Nearer and nearer, as steady and inexorable as the tick of clock.
Before he hears it, Robert’s life is on track. Despite being an average sort of guy, he seems to have it all: a little apartment near Tampa Bay; a secure, longterm relationship with a charming, talented film major; the shining promise of a career in neuropsychiatry, a field he’s passionate about, once he finishes his doctoral thesis. Everything is going according to plan, and that’s exactly the way that pragmatic, stolid Robert likes things to go.
But when the world starts going mad one grisly news headline at a time, Robert’s life begins to fall apart in a relentless series of events ranging from maddening to deadly. His girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend is edging in, putting his formerly rock-solid relationship on suddenly shaky ground. Violent riots are taking over the city. People he knows are beginning to drop like flies, falling victim to or joining the mass insanity. Others are attempting to flee Tampa by the thousands, but as the terror sweeps the nation, no place and no one is safe from the monsters. They are everywhere: on the bus, in the streets…in the mirror.
Meanwhile, Robert must bear the heavy burden of being the only one who really suspects the truth. In an eerie coincidence, his thesis research foretold and parallels the sudden plague of malevolence corrupting society, making him perhaps the world’s premier expert on the topic. Now, instead of merely researching the trend, he finds himself inside of it, fighting for his life and that of the woman he loves in a city that’s rapidly transforming into a hellish landscape out of his worst nightmare.
And Robert knows nightmares. Long ago, something dark and evil shadowed his childhood and ripped his idyllic, small-town family apart, changing the course of his life forever. The twisted secret was locked away long ago, so why is it suddenly haunting him again now, when derangement is spreading through humanity like an unstoppable pestilence?
Poor Robert. It turns out that skeletons can escape their closets. They can hate you. They can hunt you. They can eat you alive.
As his past and present crash together with shocking fury, the explosion imperils everything Robert holds dear. But clues lie in the resulting wreckage…potential keys to unlock the deeper truths that hide buried in every human being’s soul, truths regarding mankind’s chaotic spiral into rabid viciousness. Is he brave enough to unlock them?
Are you?
Clip clop. You’re running out of time to decide. They’re coming.
The ones in charge… Control everything…
Crud, I’ve started crying because I’m scared I won’t survive World War III. But a bigger part of me is scared I will.
My mom is bleeding in my arms and she’s making me promise to follow her three rules.
Pray. Don’t trust anyone. Stay alive.
How long do I need to break all three?
**My thoughts**
Dystopian books are not necessarily my favorites. I often feel like I am reading the same story again and again. Yet, if Bonnie R. Paulson writes it, I am compelled to read it. There is something about her voice and her style that sucks you in and makes each one of her stories unique. I was relaxing in a hot tub on vacation and read the whole book at once. And now I desperately need to get my hands on Book 2.
Kelly is already having enough difficulty, being 17 years old and having lost her father and her brother. Now with WWIII starting up, she and her mother now have to race for their lives. She is torn between what she thought was real and what her beliefs were and what her mother is telling her she needs to do. She has a very real struggle with faith, whereas her mother is unwavering in hers. I truly love how Kelly comes home from school once the bombings start, already in fight or flight mode, and her mother is just calmly drinking a cup of tea. That one scene toward the beginning says so much about their characters.
Kelly's mom is strong. She has been trying to teach Kelly to be strong. Kelly doesn't think she is really strong, but I think quickly finds out that she has strength she had never imagined. She grows in that respect, plus in her ideas about faith. Some of the questions that she asks herself as she ponders her existence and the state of the world actually made my brain start to spin. Would I have any faith if I were in the same situation? How would I feel if confronted with people wanting to kill me or hurt me, with betrayal, with the evil of this Third World War? I always say it is a good sign if a book keeps you glued to the pages AND makes you think while you are reading it.
Even without reading the descriptions of the next two books, I can tell that the next two books are destined to keep those wheels spinning while glued to my Kindle. An emphasis is placed on the importance of women, but not in a good way. Men are fighting to be the ones in charge and to hell with the consequences. How does this society go so far backwards from where we have gotten? What is it that makes one life more valuable than another? Who gets to make those decisions? And can your faith really get you through everything?
I will note that while faith is a strong force in this book, it is by no means anything overtly Christian nor preachy in any way. I think readers of any faith are going to relate to the moral questions being raised in this book and will ponder their own beliefs as they pertain to their own practices.
Another great read by Paulson. Just love her books and highly recommend them to readers of all ages!
Exchange Rate, Book #2
exchangerateI’m pregnant and I couldn’t be more excited. But the community Bodey, his dad, and I live in has rules. Rules that make Mom’s rules seem like safety nets.
Only 200 people are allowed at a time. My baby will make it 201.
The leader is making me choose someone from our house to die so there will be room for my child. Either I make the decision or they take… my…
Even in the craziness that the world has become, I refuse to believe only 200 can live in it at once.
The “community” is safe-ish, comfortable. We have food, warmth, and there isn’t immediate danger of being robbed while we sleep.
Doesn’t it make sense we’d have to exchange something for all that?
I’ve survived this long. Maybe that’s enough. Maybe I should die so my family can live. Or maybe I can get through the lines and find a people worth sacrificing for.
For Annie who had escaped a battering marriage, on one evening near Christmas she went for a walk through the snow that led her to a life changing chance meeting with an old friend. In an instant he reminds Annie of all she had once been, but she is certain she is not that person anymore, and could never be again. Annie believes she is in control of her life, but she may be forced to learn that there are more powerful forces than a wounded heart, like love’s desire to heal.
Christmas miracles do happen even if they are disguised in a single chance meeting. Has Annie been too hurt in the past to risk opening her heart to another man? Will she let another Christmas season slip past without anyone to share it with? Settle in for a heartwarming tale of renewed romance, and one woman’s journey from a life of isolation, beatings and pain to a life full of love.
Quote from Jackie
I just love Christmas, it can be such a romantic opportunity for those looking for love.
So with a fire crackling in the background and the fragrance of pine needles, cinnamon and apples in the air I just can’t help myself and the results are, wonderful Christmas stories that have romance, perhaps a wedding or just people in love.
I do write family friendly love stories after all, my children read my stories & I am proudly family orientated!. So I hope you enjoy a hart warming feel good romance even if it is just for a little while.
About the author:
On most mornings, Jackie is sat at her computer typing away on her next idea, next book, once she gets into one of her creative moods it is not many who can get her attention let alone get her to stop for a moment, it is heard that often her poor family end up with late dinners, bless them.
She has 3 wonderful children, a very patient hubby and a dog who sits beside her every day listening to her type away. He really is a cutie and comes to her rescue when she get stuck and can’t think what to write, Oscar is there with his collar and lead and so off they go walking which is usually enough to refresh her mind so that when she returns she is encouraged, excited and ready to write again.
If you have read some of her books you know she like to write adventures with a bit of mystery thrown in, she prefers short stories because these are ideal for lunch breaks or when you’re waiting for an appointment or that long ride home on the train.
She always carries her kindle with her for such occasions as these, you know when you’re waiting in the doctors room or the vets or the dentist (helps to keep your mind of the sounds of those drills!) she even has a kindle reader on her computer so when and if she gets time she can read there not to mention her iPad that also has a reader so she always has one at hand and book not too far from her!
