Aaberdeen: The Beginning of the End Part 1 Journeys Collide by L.M. Blair

Aaberdeen is no longer a land teeming with mystical and magical creatures. Hope, honor and magic are rare commodities. A melancholy has settled upon the land where the people have forgotten their past and fight their own potential. Rulers make laws to preserve their positions. The common man, more common than ever, has little hope in the future, especially as the dark forces gather.

There is one ray of hope and a chance to spread goodness in the land or the evil will increase. But first, those who have forgotten or fight their destiny must be reminded of their potential and ability as they must first choose to go on this journey of self-discovery.

About L. M. Blair

"It's no wonder that people say that some things are written in the stars, because there are some things that should not be changed."

L. M. Blair is new to writing, she is a stay at home mom and started writing as a hobby when she basically had to give up her gardening hobby when she could no longer keep it up due to her sensitive eyes. She decided to self publish when her daughter liked her book a great deal, so she decided to print it and see what happened.

She decodes parts of Boone he's kept camouflaged from the world (& himself) almost as easily and even teaches the man with a boatload of concerns to 'cast his cares' on God, (which sounds just dandy, until Brianna foils the mob’s plans one time too many & puts herself in their cross-hairs.)

Brianna's too important to Boone to risk further, so he pushes away the love he’s lacked all his life in order to keep her safe. It's the perfect plan, (if only she were the kind of gal to abandon the people she loves).

When she doesn't, Brianna’s marked for death, and Boone will trade his freedom for hers in a heartbeat---
----which it just might cost them.

About K.D. Harp

Award winning author K.D. Harp enjoys world travel, volunteering and educating people about the appropriate use of the phrase "Bless his heart," the original meaning of which has nothing to do with sarcastically calling someone a sucker or dimwit, and is properly used to imply a 'there but for the Grace of God'.

The Atlanta native is a graduate of Georgia State University, and loves truly smart female leads, so most of hers will MacGyver their way out of some sort of situation (whether it's jury-rigging a flamethrower with kitchen supplies or finding new uses for a fire extinguisher to escape an inferno). Bored and dismayed by the trend in fiction to equate genuine love with the pale imitation of lust without personal investment, K.D. portrays people of character engaged with a world that lacks it.

When they do it without losing the physical passion and sense of humor God would give to them, it's a total win.

~twenty-four years ago

Nick pressed two fingers into the sleep deprived headache pounding in his temple and tried to concentrate on professor Jenkins’s explanation of ideal gas law. He circled a line of notes, ignored the knock on the auditorium door until he heard the familiar cry. Hannah, who he’d left in the university daycare two hours ago.

The high pitched wail wasn’t his two year old sister’s hurt cry. It was her scared cry with a touch of pissed off. In the six months since their parents’ death, he’d learned to tell the difference. He’d learned a lot of things. Like if he didn’t take her to the bathroom, she’d likely wait too long and have an accident. Like green beans made her throw up, but she’d eat them if he told her to. And she would never, ever go to sleep without Mr. Bunny.

He was up, out of his seat, and halfway down the auditorium stairs before his professor laid his pen down.

Nick’s eyes narrowed on the young blonde in an oversized sweatshirt with silk greek letters sewn on the front. She held a sobbing Hannah dressed in the sunny yellow sundress he’d picked out that morning. She hadn’t been crying when he left her. Now her eyes were red and snot mixed with tears dripped into her mouth. Hannah lunged for him. His arms engulfed her small body and his heart squeezed like it always did when she held onto him.

“I stay you,” Hannah said. Each word tumbled out of her with a jerk of her tiny shoulders.

“What happened to her?”

“Nothing happened to her. She hasn’t stopped screaming for the past hour and she bit three people. We can’t keep her like that.”

Several responses came to mind.

She’s just a baby.

She missed her nap.

And the loudest of all, it was my fault for leaving her.

Hannah raised her head to look at him, giant tears hanging from golden lashes. “I bite.”

“Well. At least she’s honest.” Professor Jenkins turned his questioning eyes to Nick. “She yours?”

He hesitated, but only a second. “My sister. But yes, she’s mine.” And at that moment she became even more his, which seemed to be the case every day. Every day, a little more his.

There's something about the written word that is pure magic.

Possibly it's the fact there are 26 letters in the English alphabet, and they can create something so beautiful or so empowering they're capable to change our lives.

How important is it that we break suit and stretch our minds?

I like to think of myself as 'unique'. My stories aren't for everyone, and sometimes I may push what you believe to be 'normal'.

Normal is subjective.

I prefer to be known as a person who's never been 'bound by custom' but is 'unique by choice'.

I hope you do read and enjoy my stories.

He's Moved On, Why Can't You? by Isabella Smith

He's Moved On, Why Can't You?

Heart-break is perhaps one of the hardest feelings to overcome. In cases where men dumped their girls, the entire process of crying one’s heart out and thinking why me, becomes all the more complicated and numbing for a woman. The moment a man, who still can make her heart skip a beat, walks away from her life, as a piece of glass struck with a hammer, her entire world comes crashing down into smatterings. One after the other, she falls into the various fringes of loss, confusion and anger. If you are a woman and had in the past slipped a man you loved dearly into the hands of destiny, you would well understand the hurt and pain of having to watch him leave. Suddenly doubts and the dreaded fear of rejection come creeping in. Why me? Is there something wrong with me? How am I to live now? How soon will I be able to get out of this emotional vertigo? Will I ever get over it? Why is life so unfair? What would people think of me if I told them that or this? While this book may neither give you the answers to your questions nor may it solve the problems at hand, it may help you drift through the journey more gently and with more ease. You might be shocked at knowing how simple getting over a hard break-up is. Just read along and you will see how it can be done – all in a simple and fun manner!

Read an excerpt:

1. Accept It

Accept the fact, once and for all, from the very depth of your heart, that from now on you mean absolutely nothing to him! I know after having spent tons of years together it sounds crazy to suddenly sleep alone through the nightmares and go on a long drive without having someone you love by your side.

Just accept the fact and stop asking questions. No matter what the questions are, it will always be you answering them and that from your own love sick perspective. The fact remains. How long do you want to live in denial?

2. Face it head-on

Once you have a complete and deep grasp over your circumstances, you go ahead and face the matter head-on. Accepting your situation and acting in accordance with it require intentional and deliberate effort of will power and 4 strength of mind from your side. Do not run away from reality but face it head-on.

3. Do things that you love to do

Do you still remember those times when you used to close the doors of your room shut and dance like there is no tomorrow? Well, it is time you take out those old shoes from the closet, pull them tight on your feet and began prancing like a swan. Before you completely lose your mind over what reasons he had to leave you for and in which way you succeeded in hurting him so, bring to remembrance the fine things you used to do before he set your heart on fire and took away from you your precious little secrets of enjoyment. Pamper yourself, reward yourself and spoil yourself rotten! Now that you are on your own, you can always go on that long trip with your single friends that you had been postponing for a while now.

4. Do new things

If you do not feel like exhuming an old passion for dancing or singing or drawing, no worries, you can enliven a new one. For example, step out and join some outdoor activities. Reading this as you sit in the solace of your comfortable room after a sad breakup might sound bizarre but believe me, it is worth all your time. Get up, get dressed and get going! There is no point sitting and crying. Embrace the truth swiftly and with grace that only a few rare elegant ladies possess. Be the woman worth your salt!

“We’re not—you don’t really—we can’t be—”

She laughs, but it’s a brittle sound. “Come on. We didn’t actually have a wedding last night.”

“We didn’t? You’re sure?” I perk up. Great. She remembers last night. I squeeze my eyes and try to recall something—anything—that happened after Declan and Shannon said their goodbyes at the reception last night.

“I’m, well, I mean...” Twisting in my arms, she looks at me with those big, wide, trusting eyes, her left hand splayed against my bare chest, digging in where the robe has separated. “You don’t remember what happened?”

My voice drops with uncertainty.

Hers goes up.

“Quit joking.”

“Not joking.”

“We both can’t remember any part of last night?”

“When does your memory end?” I ask.

Mascara is streaked along the corner of her eye, and any makeup she wore last night currently resides somewhere on my skin or on the bedsheets. I can only imagine what I look like.

Amanda, though, is gorgeous. In my arms and looking at me with a perplexed expression, biting her lower lip while she flips through the filing cabinets of memory in her mind, and—

“I don’t know.”

I sit up. “You’re the fixer.”

“I know! But I remember saying goodnight to Shannon, hugging Declan, and then—poof! Nothing.”

“That’s when my memory ends, too,” I say, my skin beginning to crawl. “I know one thing: we did not have a foursome.”

“And I soooooo did not sleep with Josh. He’s gay. The man can’t handle watching a birth video. A real-life vagina would send him into cardiac arrest.”

“I know my heart pounds whenever I see yours,” I whisper. She gives me a reluctant smile, in spite of her hangover.

“That was baaaaaad,” she groans.

“All signs point to the sex question being put to rest. Worst case, all we did was sleep with each other,” I note.

“Worst case? Buddy, sleeping with me is best case. Best case. Always best.”

That was an unfortunate choice of words on my part. Before I can do damage control, she speaks.

“What if we are?” she hisses.

“Are what?”

Her eyes dart to mine.

I Promised Not to Tell: Raising a Transgender Child by Cheryl B. Evans

I Promised Not to Tell

I Promised Not to Tell: Raising a transgender child is a true and honest parenting memoir about one family’s journey to discovering the son they never knew they had.

Cheryl and her husband Jim had two daughters born four years apart. Their eldest, Mariah was a girly girl who loved pink, Barbie dolls and playing dress up. Her younger sister Jordan loved blue, toy trucks and army men. It was presumed that Jordan was a typical tomboy, and these parents were totally okay with that. Both girls were happy and, while they had different interests, they got along very well right from the start.

When their youngest daughter was only a few years of age, she began to put forth a very strong male gender expression and this continued up until the time she reached puberty. Jordan decided to drop the tomboy phase in an effort to embrace the biological girl she was. However, instead of embracing the changes, Jordan experienced a drastic change in behaviour sending a once happy child into a tail spin of depression. After a failed suicide attempt, Cheryl and her husband stepped up to the plate to get their child the help she needed. They eventually learned that Jordan suffers from gender dysphoria and that all the sadness plaguing their youngest daughter was the result of this deeply seated gender struggle.

The family began a journey of learning that developed into one of self discovery for each member of the family. These parents stood together as their family faced a religious statement that this child is ‘not of God’. Mariah and Jordan grow apart and a home often filled with laughter became void of it. It was a trying time. Determination aided this family as they pushed forward in an effort to not just make the road ahead easier for Jordan but, with consideration for all those transgender children that will follow.

The book is a deeply personal account of the steps this family took to keep their family together, to push forward and help Jordan become the healthy and happy young man he is today. Each step of Jordan’s transition from female to male is documented in the hopes it will help others who may have found themselves on a similar path. The underlying thread of this story is love; the consistent and unwavering love these parents have for their children and the steps they took to protect their family.

I Promised Not to Tell is an inspirational book about survival and love that transitions beautifully between the family’s own story and some of the larger issues that face the transgender community today.
