Have you ever said to someone, "I'm not a mind reader?" Or, have you ever been told, "You know I can't read your mind?" It's Not About Me - It's About Them leaves nothing for the imagination when something needs to be SAID.

It's not about DYING, it's about LIVING and preserving your memory.

Read an excerpt:
I started out with my name as I called myself as a young child: Marsha Lynette Booker Bear. By the way the Bear was attributed from my little black and white panda, my buddy, as a young child. I also remember stating my name as Marsha L Dot Booker because that’s the way I learned my name.

I didn’t have to say the whole name, but I had to remember to put the dot behind the L. As a child I guess I didn’t know that was how you wrote your middle initial.

Then, I remember writing down, “But she loved to be called Lynn.”

Now, why is any of this important? Believe it or not, I realized, how would anyone know what I wanted unless I write it down?

BLURB

From New York Times bestselling author Penelope Ward, comes a new standalone novel.

The one that got away. Every girl has one, right?
Mine was a charming, British aristocrat who turned my world upside down one summer.
From the moment I first spotted Leo in the distance through my binoculars, I’d been captivated. I certainly never expected to find a man showering outside of the property across the bay in his birthday suit.
Then I noticed his housemate staring back at me with binoculars of his own—watching me watching Leo.
That made for an interesting conversation starter when I inevitably ran into them.
Turned out, the handsome Brits were only renting that house for the summer in my seaside town.
Leo and I formed an instant connection, even though we were technically opposites by all appearances. I taught him how to dig for clams, and he taught me that not all wealthy and powerful guys are pretentious.
Despite knowing he was totally wrong for me, I couldn’t seem to stay away.
It was a wild and crazy few months. And before I knew it, we’d fallen in love.
We both had one wish: more time together.
But Leo had obligations back home. He lived a life I’d never fit into. And I was going to law school. So, we decided to end it and never look back.
A part of me always felt like I’d let my soulmate walk away.
I believed our story was over.
Until five years later when he sent me a letter that shook me to my core.
I’d thought my world was turned upside down that first summer?
Well, I knew nothing yet.

Review of Written for You by Robin Bielman

Written For You by Robin Bielman is out now! Check it out and be sure to order your copy today from your favorite retailer! But first, check out my book review of this sweet friends-to-lovers contemporary romance.

Title: Written for You

Author: Robin Bielman

Genre: Contemporary Romance

About Written for You:

Cam Radcliffe is on a deadline to write his next blockbuster action film, but all he can think about lately is writing romance. The inspiration? His best friend, Reese.

They’ve known each other for years, but suddenly working in the same office has given him a whole new appreciation of her. Reese is driving him wild in the best possible way, and Cam only hopes it isn’t obvious. If she knew, he’s certain their friendship would reach The End.

So, of course, Reese figures it out. But the awkward, negative response he expected is nothing like the reality—like they’re living their own romcom.

A romcom that’s giving him the worst case of writer’s block at the absolute worst time in his career. Especially when the secret Reese has been forced to keep comes out…and threatens to ruin everything.

**My thoughts**

Reese and Cam have essentially been best friends their entire lives. It happened naturally, as their adoptive mothers are best friends. But they also just have this unique bond holding them together, different from the one Reese has with Cam’s adoptive brothers.

It can be difficult to realize that your best friend is the one you’re meant to be with. And it takes almost 20 years for the two of them to realize that they have a thing for each other. The timing had to be just right and Reese seems to finally be ready to settle down in life.

They really push each other, and this is best demonstrated when they decide to have a sort of write-off of screenplays. Only Reese is also hiding a secret about those screenplays.

I greatly enjoyed their banter and how they support each other in friendship. I completely understand their concerns in pursuing something more because of that strong family history and bond. I don’t like that Reese is keeping a major secret from Cam, but I understand her motivation.

The part where all of that comes to a head felt a little off to me. There’s something in the way it is all initially handled and those initial reactions that felt a little out of sync or disproportionate to the way the secret was revealed. It’s hard to describe without spoilers.

But other than what felt to me like a slight hiccup in the storytelling, I greatly enjoyed reading this book. It was perfect for sitting on the deck during these waning days of summer. I hope there are more books to come, perhaps featuring Cam’s brothers, so we can see them find happiness and also be able to check in on these two.

Thanks to the author and Inkslinger for my requested review copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

EXCERPT

Hell.

Hell was the moment I stepped into the grocery store a few days later and nearly knocked right into him.

“It’s you.” He held up a long, phallic-looking baguette and shook it. “Remind you of something?”

My face felt hot. “Very funny.”

“I haven’t seen much of you outside over the last couple of days. Did we scare you?”

This was not Shower Guy, but rather the one who’d caught me peeping. He had a strong British accent and was extremely tall, with dark hair.

“I’ve just been taking a break from the backyard.”

“Too hot outside for you, eh?”

“Look, I didn’t intend to see what I saw. I’ve been into…birdwatching this summer. Then one day you two moved in, and I—”

“Whoa, whoa, whoa...” The other guy had appeared next to his housemate. “I’m sorry for anything he might have said to you just now. Rest assured, it’s all shite. He’s just playing around.” He, too, had a strong British accent. “I don’t believe we’ve properly met.”

“Although, you’ve improperly met...” his friend chided.

“Put a sock in it, Sigmund.”

Okay, so the asshole is Sig—or Sigmund. The previously naked one must be Leo, then. They were both tall and good-looking, but Leo, with his chiseled features, lustrous hair, and striking eyes was on another level—a total Adonis, and intimidatingly gorgeous.

Sigmund shrugged. “Surely she knows I’m just kidding.”

“But you don’t know when to stop. That’s always been your problem. Can’t you see how red her face is getting? You’re embarrassing her.”

Uh…how red is my face getting? This was mortifying. I couldn’t control that about myself. After all, I was a redhead with fair skin covered in freckles. Whenever I got embarrassed, I basically turned red from head to toe.

Leo’s tone softened. “I apologize for his rude behavior.” He held out his hand. “I’m Leo Covington.”

I took it, enjoying the warmth of his skin. “Felicity Dunleavy.”

The other guy offered his hand. “Sigmund Benedictus. But please call me Sig.”

Benedictus?
Been a dick-tus.
He sure had.
Fitting.

“Good to meet you,” I said.

“And you, as well, Freckles.”

Freckles? He couldn’t have come up with a more original nickname? I was self-conscious about my freckles, and typically wanted to murder anyone who dubbed me Freckles.

“Do you mind not calling me that?”

“Do you prefer a different nickname?” Sig asked. “Peeping Tom, perhaps?”

Leo gritted his teeth. “Enough. Seriously.”

“All right. I’ll behave. Going in search of tapenade for this bread.” He winked. “Be back.”

Relief washed over me as he walked away.

“I’m...really sorry about him,” Leo said.

“Well, given how you came to know of me, the ridicule is warranted. I shouldn’t have been spying.”

“I don’t reckon you anticipated seeing me in my birthday suit. That was the first time I’d ever done that. I assumed no one was in the vicinity, of course. For the record, I don’t make a habit of showering for all the world to see. I never had an outdoor shower in England. So it’s a novelty.”

Leo was simply striking. His hair was light brown with golden undertones. He had beautiful bone structure and full lips that were difficult not to stare at. There wasn’t one thing I would change about his face. His eyes were a deep blue. They reminded me of a piece of sea glass I’d used to make a necklace once.

I cleared my throat. “What brings you to Narragansett?”

“I’m taking six months off from life. It seemed like a good location to get lost. We picked this place randomly on a map, actually. Sigmund and I have spent our time in a few different locales. First was California, then New York, and now Rhode Island.”

“Are you two…together?”

His brow lifted. “What do you mean by together? We’re rooming together. But if you mean romantically together, then no. Exactly what did you assume?”

“I thought you might be gay.”

“If I were gay, I’d have far better taste in men than that wanker cousin of mine. What in God’s name made you think we were gay?”

“I don’t know. Two handsome men...living together in a big house…”

“So, if I’m a guy living with another man, I’m automatically shagging him?”

“You’re right. That was a hasty assumption.”

“Thank you for the compliment, by the way.”

I just called him handsome, didn’t I? Feeling suddenly hot, I looked toward the produce section. “Well, I’d better be going...”

“Before you do, I want to apologize for the flowers he sent your way the other night. I urged him not to. Not everyone appreciates that sense of humor.”

I shrugged. “It was fine. And they were pretty. I was embarrassed, at first, but then I ended up laughing about the whole thing. Mrs. Angelini certainly got a kick out of it.”

His brow lifted. “Mrs. Angelini?”

How do I explain who she is without unloading my history on this stranger? I kept it simple. “She’s my roommate.”

“Ah. Roommate. So she must be your lesbian lover, then.” He raised an eyebrow, and I had to smile. “Anyway, why do you call her Mrs. Angelini? She doesn’t have a first name?”

“Well, she’s seventy. It’s more of a respect thing. It’s what I started calling her some years back, and it stuck. She’s always asked me to call her by her first name, but I got used to calling her Mrs. Angelini.”

“I see.” His eyes seared into mine for a moment. “Your roommate is seventy. And how old are you, might I ask?”

“Twenty-four. What about you?”

“Twenty-eight,” he answered. His eyes lingered on mine for a bit. “Listen, we’re going to be renting the house across from you for the entire summer. We know virtually nothing about Narragansett. I’d love to pick your brain about places to go and things to do here. Maybe you wouldn’t mind coming over for tea sometime this week?”

“Tea? You really are British, aren’t you?”

“Guilty as charged.” His white teeth gleamed.

Looking down at my feet, I said, “I don’t know.”

“I promise not to take off my clothes...” He added a crooked
smile.

I let out a much-needed laugh. “Well, since you put it that way.”

“Tomorrow at two, then? Or whatever time works for you.”

A part of me wanted to refuse, but why? It wasn’t like I had anything more exciting going on. I didn’t quite understand whether he genuinely wanted my expertise on Narragansett, or if there was something more to the invitation, now that I knew he wasn’t gay.

“Sure. Two tomorrow works.”

“Brilliant. You know how to get to the house without having to swim across, I take it?”

“Yes.” I smiled.

“Very well, then. And I promise, Sigmund will be on his best behavior.”

“I can handle it if he’s not.”

This seemingly rich traveler had no idea just how much I could handle. I might turn red when I was embarrassed, but I’d grown a pretty-thick skin over the years.

That’s the way it is when you always had to fend for yourself.

Read an excerpt:
When we entered the solarium, I glanced down at his hand and noticed a few tattoos. I stopped and pulled his hands closer to my face to examine them. One hand had an entire paragraph of Italian scrawled on it. The other had a black crow with the initials “M.M.” under it.

“Who is M. M.?” I asked.

“It stands for memento mori.”

“What does that mean?”

“Remember, you must die.”

“Huh?”

“It says memento mori, which means remember, you must die in Latin.”

“That’s kind of creepy.”

“It’s not creepy at all. It’s truth. It’s the only truth. The only certainty in life.”

“Yeah, I guess. But why would you want to be reminded of that every time you look at your hand?” I swayed a bit as he stepped closer. I could feel his breath on my face, and it smelled like cigarettes and wine. “You can’t escape it. It doesn’t matter who you are, how much you have, or what you do, you will die. For me, it’s a constant reminder to make the most out of every moment. To not just exist, but to truly live.” He bent down a bit, leaned in close, and pressed his lips to my neck just under my ear. I closed my eyes for a moment and felt my legs turn to jelly. “You don’t really think I’m dangerous, do you?” he whispered into my ear. I turned my head and said, “I wouldn’t still be here if I did.” One of his eyes squinted just a bit and he started to bring one hand towards my hair. I backed away and cleared my throat.

“So what does this one say?” I gestured towards the paragraph on his other hand. He spoke in perfect Italian, without looking down at his hand. “In quel libro che è la mia memoria, nella prima pagina del primo capitolo, che è il giorno in cui ti ho incontrato per la prima volta, appaiono le parole, qui inizia una nuova vita.”

“Okay. The most I can translate is nuova vita. New life.”

“That’s right. It’s the introduction to Dante’s La Vita Nuova. It says, ‘In the book of my memory, on the first page of the first chapter that is the day I met you, the words appear: here begins a new life.’”

“That’s Dante talking about Beatrice, right?”

“Yes.”

“So, who do you have that written on your hand for?”

“I don’t know. I haven’t met her yet.”

There was a pause, and I thought he might try to kiss me. His eye contact was too intense, and I grasped for a way to continue the conversation. “Any other tattoos?” He grinned and swiftly pulled his shirt off. The sight of his muscular, tattooed chest and arms and that warm familiarity between us made me lightheaded. I’ll be honest. If he had been just a bit more forceful at that moment, I would have given myself completely. I tried to concentrate on the tattoos. There was a skull on his chest that looked like it was melting. On one shoulder leading down his arm were pieces of a broken clock, an angel, stormy clouds, a skull, roses, and a human heart. Scrawled across his hip was another line in Italian.

“la morte non è la fine dell’amore, la morte non è la fine”

I knew that morte meant death. “Wow. You’re like, obsessed with death,” I muttered.

“Quite the opposite really. I’m obsessed with life. I want to experience as much life as I can in every moment.”

“Maybe your tattoo should say remember life?” He stared at me and seemed to be searching my face for something. “You can put your shirt back on now,” I commanded as I began to walk away.

“You haven’t seen the tattoos on my back.”

“I got the gist. Death and carpe diem stuff.”

A Music Playlist for The Hotel [Series] by Michael James

Music is often inspirational. Today, author Michael James is telling us about the musical inspiration for his Hotel series. Read all about it as well as an excerpt from the first book, The End of Time. Be sure to follow the tour for even more and check out the great giveaway!

Series Blurb:

No one has ever escaped from the Hotel at the End of Time. Until now.

Vain only wants to be left alone, but the Hotel has other plans. Forces will align against her: a group of multi-dimensional felons collectively named The Wyatts; and their leader, Trick, a mild-to-medium psychopath with a fondness for impractical jokes.

The only way forward is to go back. Back to the one place in the world she swore she'd never return.

Back to the Hotel.

Blurb for: The Hotel at the End of Time:

Vain is the only person to ever escape from the Hotel at the end of time. On her way out, she took their prized possession: A Padlock that grants immortality.

They will do anything to get it back.

The forces of the Hotel are aligned against her: mundane items turned into weapons; a group of multi-dimensional felons collectively named The Wyatts; and their leader, Trick, a mild-to-medium psychopath with a fondness for impractical jokes.

Everything changes when Vain meets Emma, a timid grad student with impossible and terrifying powers. Together, they are propelled into an adventure that will see them battle the Wyatts, blow up several objects of significant value, and quite by accident, discover a way to stop the Hotel.

Even with Emma, Vain has a lot of problems to deal with.

She’s exhausted from being hunted.

Stopping the Hotel might kill them.

She has a hangnail.

But Vain is resourceful. Vain is clever.

And she always has a plan.

Read an excerpt:
“How is it for you?” Emma stood up and dusted herself off. “How do you do it?”

Vain tilted her head. “You know how when everyone tells you what to do, tries to get you to act in a certain way, but when their head is turned, you punch their dick into slush?”

“I do not. Not at all. I’m not even sure you’ve described a real thing.”

“Well, that’s what using the power is like to me. I channel that emotion.”

“If I ever encountered a culture where the emotion associated with genital-punching as a response to be being told what to do was so commonplace they needed a word for it, I would never, ever visit them.”

“Sweden must have a word for that. Aren’t they constantly incoherent with rage?”

Emma shook her head. “Without knowing one word of Swedish, I’m positive they do not have a specific word for that.”

“Meatball.”

“How is this helping me? You said you’d teach me how to use these powers.”

“I will,” said Vain. “Think of me as your own personal Yoda.”

“The tree frog from the Star Wars movies?

Blurb for: The Well at the Bottom of Everything:

Vain thought destroying the Portal to the Hotel at the End of Time would mean freedom for her and Roman, but her happy ever after is coming to an end.

A horrible mistake and a stray bullet force her to infiltrate the Hotel and contend with a new and terrible power: The Well at the Bottom of Everything.

Friendships will be tested. Loyalties will be broken.

The Hotel will have its revenge.

Music playlist for your book with explanations

The entire genesis for The Hotel series (The Hotel at the End of Time and The Well at the Bottom of Everything) was from a song called Hermila by Shout Out Louds. The opening section is what inspired the idea to write the book. It's where Vain, the main character, came from. This person who calculates every move and every step. The chorus talks about "When my heart stops, I'm letting you go, there'll be another one to follow you home" and this line sort of was the drive for the main plot. In chapter 1 of the first book, Vain is pushed off a roof (her heart stops) and then Roman needs to find another one (Emma) to follow him home.

I'm honestly not sure where the stuff about time Hotels and magic exploding Padlocks and endless, hilarious chapters came from, but for sure this song was the starting point of it all.

Link to the song here

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YhYaTQiUCQU

lyrics here:

So I calculate every move, every step
On the ice, beyond shades, on the sharpest of blades
So I calculate every move, every step
On the shadow in the light, on the last breath at night

But when my heart stops
I'm letting you go
There'll be another one,
To follow you home
When my heart stops
I'm making the call
To send another one,
I'll send another one

Michael James spent his formative years writing, and when he wasn't writing, he was writing. A mistaken belief that a "real" job would be more satisfying led him down a dark path that did not involve writing but did involve meetings. Fortunately, he has since course-corrected and is back on the right (write? Ha!) path. The Hotel at the End of Time is not his first book, but it is the one with the most Hotels in it.

He lives in Canada with his family. When he's not writing, he does Canadian things - saying sorry a lot, being polite, talking about the weather, you know how it goes.

About Hitched to the Gunslinger:

Gray “Quick Shot” Woodson is the fastest gun west of the Mississippi. Unfortunately, he’s ready to hang up his hat. Sure, being notorious has its perks. But the nomadic lifestyle—and people always tryin’ to kill you—gets old real fast.

Now he just wants to find a place to retire so he can spend his days the way the good Lord intended. Staring at the sunset. And napping.

When his stubborn horse drags him into a hole-in-the-wall town called Desolation, something about the place calls to Gray, and he figures he might actually have a shot at a sleepy retirement.

His optimism lasts about a minute and a half.

Soon he finds himself embroiled in a town vendetta and married to a woman named Mercy. Who, judging by her aggravating personality, doesn’t know the meaning of her own name. In fact, she’s downright impossible.

But dang it if his wife isn’t irresistible. If only she’d stop trying to steal his guns to go after the bad guys herself.

There goes his peace and quiet...

Exclusive Excerpt:

Gray had traveled. Lived an exciting life. And was still a very handsome man, if a little worse for wear. She had no doubt he had been with all sorts of beautiful women. They always flocked to dangerous men. And whatever else Gray was, he was definitely dangerous. When he could stay awake, that is.

She took a deep breath and said it all in a rush. “I’m probably not the type of woman you expected you’d marry.”

His eyes widened. “Mercy, I’m a gunfighter. I never expected I’d marry at all, or even live long enough for the thought to cross my mind.”

Her shoulders sagged. Partly in relief, though there was more than a little disappointment, too. At what, she didn’t want to examine too closely. What had she expected him to do? Declare his undying love and admiration? He barely knew her. He was only in this spot because she’d badgered him into it, and he was apparently too honorable (who knew?) to back out. And besides, did she even want him to go waxing poetic? She barely knew him, either, and what she did know was…well, colorful, to say the least.

“Hey,” he said, startling her out of her thoughts. He touched her chin, lightly turning her face to look at him more fully. “I know I couldn’t have ever expected all this to happen. But if I do have to be saddled with a wife…” That lopsided grin of his took the sting out of his words and sent her stomach careening again. “Well, you aren’t such a bad choice.”

Mercy laughed. “Aren’t you just the flatterer.”

His grin widened. “I mean it. You’re strong, brave, smart, and stubborn as a mule. That’s a compliment, by the way,” he added when she gasped. Then he just stared at her for a heartbeat, as though he wasn’t sure what to say or wasn’t sure if he should say it. Finally, he shook his head. “Your eyes are the exact color of a field of bluebells I passed once. Soft blue but with flecks of gold like when the sun hits ’em. And when you get your dander up, they flash pure fire.”

She no longer worried if he’d hear her heart. Because it had just stopped altogether.

He shrugged. “Maybe it won’t be so bad. It’s been a while since I knew where I’d be lying my head every night.”

Mercy’s cheeks flushed hot with the sudden realization that as her husband he might have the expectation of laying his head beside hers. Their engagement might have been fake, but this marriage would be very real. And he would be well within his rights to expect it to be real…in every way. And…she wasn’t sure she hated that idea.

“Of course, you can’t cook worth a damn, but with Martha feeding me lunch, at least I’ll be sure of one decent meal every day,” he said.

“Oh!” She shoved him and he chuckled, capturing her hand. And then he pressed a kiss to the back of it.

She sucked in a breath. For an inept, laze-about, retired killer, he could certainly be charming when he wanted to be.

“So?” he asked.

She slowly released her breath and stood. “All right, then. Let’s go get hitched.”
