Review of The Sinister Superyacht (Julie Cavallo Investigates) by Ana T. Drew

It's the third book in the Julie Cavallo Investigates cozy mystery series by Ana T. Drew! Check out my take on The Sinister Superyacht, this latest book taking place in Provence, one of my favorite places. Follow the tour for more. Be sure to enter the giveaway!

French tycoon Jean-Louis Ponsard is having a bad year.
Unwise investments, canceled orders, deals falling through…
In the thick of it, his yacht becomes the scene of a suspicious death, and his year of misfortune hits the bed of the Mediterranean Sea.
To make matters worse, the victim isn't just anybody.
She's his much-hated mother-in-law.

Onboard, caterer Julie Cavallo and her quirky grandma Rose do some poking around.
But every luxury cabin hides a secret.
Every passenger has an alibi or no reason to want the victim dead.
Discretion rules.
The crew keeps mum.
So do the marble countertops, gem-incrusted walls, and gold sinks.
When the cops take charge, things go to pieces, and not only for the Ponsard family.

Can Julie dive to the murky bottom of the sea, unravel the case, and come back up still breathing?

**My thoughts**
Each book in this series seems to improve upon the previous one. As much as I adore Provence, I was glad to see the setting move for a little while to the yacht. There's only so much that can happen in a small town. (And even Jessica Fletcher had to travel to mix it up a bit!) It made for an interesting setting with some fun new twists and a whole new cast of quirky characters.

You still have the hint of a love triangle going on. Flo and Eric are still marginally involved in the investigation, so there's still a hint of FERJ going on. Rose is still as entertaining as ever. (But I will say I got a little thrown off with Julie constantly alternating between calling her Rose and Grandma.) I really look forward to seeing what she is able to pull off.

I felt like this one worked even better as a standalone book than the second book, but you're definitely going to appreciate all of the characters and certain plot points better if you read the whole series. I am definitely looking forward to the next installment!

Thank you to Goddess Fish and the author for a requested review copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
