'Glimpse of Sunlight' by Leona DeRosa Bodie & G.E. Gardiner FB Event with Release Day Diva

A brilliant marine archaeologist…

A needy college student…

A ruthless tycoon…

In 1696 the sailing ship Mystique sank and took with it Jonathan Dickinson’s gold, diamonds, and a treasury of riches. Now the wreck believed to be the Mystique remains shrouded in mystery until an ancient journal sheds light on its location, but a dispute over ownership blocks the excavation.

In a fight against time with the threat of Jamaica’s colorful past overpowering the present, three powerful men lay claim to the sunken treasure. The struggle that ensues pits them against one another as 400 years of Jamaica’s brutal history is revealed.

In a sweeping saga stretching back to 17th Century Africa and the British Isles, these three adventurers and their forebears—an ex-slave, a notorious pirate and a wealthy merchant—battle for ownership of the treasure and are drawn into the grit and greed of 17th Century Port Royal, Jamaica the wickedest city known to mankind. When their pursuit leads to chaos, kidnapping and murder, the question becomes, who will prevail?

Come and celebrate with Leona DeRosa Bodie and G.E. Gardiner! We have 3 days of pirate-themed fun in store for you! The party runs from April 1-3! Here are the hours we will be partying it up: April 1st 12-4 (3-7 EST), April 2nd 4-7 (7-10 EST), April 3rd 2-5 (5-8 EST)

About the authors:

Leona DeRosa Bodie lived in Miami where she decided the novel churning around in her brain for 15 years really deserved her attention. Soshe left her day job to write full-time and now calls the Treasure Coast home. While sailing 1,700 miles in the Bahamian Out Islands, Leona wrote her first novel. Shadow Cay became an Amazon bestseller and won the Reader Views Literary Award for best Mystery/Thriller/Suspense in 2010. Since then, she completed her latest novel Seas of Fury, the high-octane prequel to Shadow Cay, featuring a professor addicted to boats turned amateur sleuth. And there's no doubt being married to a forensic specialist influenced her. Leona's husband, a Miami-Dade forensic specialist for twenty-one years, appeared in the pilot episode of the long-running TV series, CSI. A strong believer of writers helping writers, Leona is the past vice president and current Treasure Coast Regional Director for the Florida Writers Association. When not writing crime fiction or about the dark world of suspense and sea adventure fiction, Leona enjoys her family and boating. Feel free to stop by her website at www.leonabodie.com and she is on Twitter (@ShadowCay) and Facebook (www.facebook.com/authorleonabodie), where you are more than welcome to follow her, friend her, and/or tell her to stop being distracted by the Internet. She has a life outside of Facebook but can’t remember the password for it!

GE Gardiner spent his first career founding and managing small businesses. Unfortunately, that career ended on December 28, 1996, while skiing atop a mountain in Western Maryland, he suffered a hemorrhagic brainstem stroke.

In 2004, he began mental therapy by writing a Journal. Brain damage left him without the ability to hand-write and his hand-eye coordination also perished. The only way to accommodate his wish to write was to use speech recognition software. He began using an early version of Dragon NaturallySpeaking and has progressed through version 12.5, having learned much about speech recognition along the way. Mr. Gardiner's speech lacked consistency. Writing became a time-consuming effort. However, what he did write was therapeutic. Seeing his thoughts and ideas on paper clarified his thinking.

In 2012, the Florida Writers Association published his short story Speed in the anthology My Wheels. That same year, best-selling Amazon author Leona DeRosa Bodie, and Nationally acclaimed maritime artist Steve Witucki, joined the project, and they began researching Mr. Dickinson’s life, the project ballooned into three novels. WRB BOOKS will publish Book #1 Glimpse of Sunlight, on April 1, 2014. Jonathan will be released later in 2014, and Sapphire of the Sea will be available nationwide, early 2015.

In the spring of 2014, GE Gardiner’s two young-adult science fiction e-novellas, Legends of the Paribell: Setarien Priestess, and Legends Paribell: MonoTech Rising, will debut.

Through his involvement in the Florida Writers Association, Mr. Gardiner helps authors develop their story-structure skills and helps promote writing skills among students.

Book Info:
Title: Blue Rose, a Flowering novel
Author: Sarah Daltry
Release Date: 2/1/2014
Publisher: SDE Press
Cover Design: Shoutlines Design
 Blurb:

“Four. My life has been shaped by four people. Four men, to be more specific. My father, my stepfather, my best friend, and my boyfriend. The first two shaped it in horrible ways, but what I am, who I am, is all because of four men.”
Alana Reardon has secrets. Some of them are too dark to tell, but everyone already thinks they know anyhow. At 20, she takes too many pills, hides the parts of her that she hates, and willingly becomes the person that they think she is. A slut. A whore. Trash.

There have only been two guys who ever saw Alana as more: Jack, the guy she can’t get over, and Dave, the one who never got over her.

With the help of therapy, facing her past, and the inevitable ways that life changes without your permission, can Alana learn to stop blaming herself? Can she allow love into her life? Is she ready to move on?

Warning: This book deals with topics of abuse and may trigger reactions in people who have experienced those things in their own lives.

Excerpt:

Later that day, at lunch, I had just found a seat by the window when he sat across from me. I was used to sitting alone. He didn’t say anything, and he had nothing to eat. He looked up at me, though, after a few minutes, and his eyes did it again. I hated my body, hated the way I looked, hated that somehow I owed my body and my looks to everyone else. But when Jack looked at me, I wanted to let someone touch me. I wanted him to hold me. He felt like safety.
It didn’t even make sense. He was just a broken kid, like me. He always wore the same threadbare hoodie. Most days, it covered his head. He was cute, but awkward. His hair was too long and usually greasy. His Chucks were a little too big, so they looked a little like clown shoes. Yet those gorgeous eyes were all I cared about. I hadn’t considered guys at all. I didn’t find them attractive, and I certainly couldn’t see the appeal of sex or of intimacy. With Jack, though, the thought of him near me didn’t make me nauseous.
“Do you want my orange?” I asked him.
“Are you sure?”
It wasn’t a groundbreaking question. But it was how I knew that what I naturally felt for Jack was right. Because no one had ever asked me that. No one had asked if I minded, if I was sure, if something was okay. They just took things.
“Yeah.”
He took it and I handed him my knife. It was flimsy plastic and wouldn’t even pierce the rind, so I took the orange back and peeled it with my fingernails. Jack just watched me and, when I handed him the orange, now peeled, he smiled. His upper lip curled more than it should have and he looked silly, smiling at an orange. But he drew the same smile from me.
“Thank you,” he said, and he pulled two slices free from the whole and handed them back to me. I didn’t eat them right away. I just watched him eat his part. He was messy and he ended up covering himself in the juices. He unzipped his hoodie after the orange squirted down the front. Underneath, he was wearing a washed out blue T-shirt with a train on it. He looked ten.
“Nice shirt,” I teased.
He looked down. “I live with my grandmother. She has no concept of clothes.”
“It’s cute.”
He smiled again and it was less awkward this time. “Do you live with your grandmother, too?”
I was wearing a huge black sweater over baggy black pants. “No. I just… I don’t like people looking at me.”
“Yeah. I get that.”
He didn’t tell me that I was too pretty to dress the way I did; he didn’t say my body was too good to hide. He just went back to eating his orange, letting the juice spill all over the train shirt. We were fourteen, but I already knew Jack would always be the only thing that mattered in my future.

Review of 'Erasing Shadows' by K.D. Rose

erasing shadows banner

ErasingShadow200What if to save the ones you love, you had to unlock the key to a different reality? Generations of mystery smash together when a seemingly traditional family must shatter their illusions of normality to confront themselves and their friends, leaving no possibility unexplored in order to rescue—well, who exactly? Watch the Ross family, the High Five Gang, and multiple generations dig into an innovative explosion of imagination where they must confront numerous realities, real-world danger, and worst of all—their own teenage hormones! In a place where nothing is as it seems and shocks are around every corner, even the people you thought you knew may find themselves strangers in this moving and provocative reality-bender. With breathless pacing and psychological intrigue, Erasing: Shadows and the High Five Gang will keep you guessing until the very end.

**My thoughts**

This book was quite different for me. I have heard of astral projection, throughout perhaps our real world, but never projection within a created world, like a parallel universe. I found the concept to be very interesting.

At first, I enjoyed how the story started immediately in the middle of the action. It drew you in and made you want to find out what was going on. And then, I was really confused. I didn't understand why things were happening, nor how everyone and everything fit together. As I kept reading, I realized that I was in the same boat as some of the characters, who were trying to unravel the mysteries at the same time. Not everyone is who they seem to be. Questions haven't yet been answered. Experiments are still in progress.

And the story is just beginning. It does end on somewhat of a cliffhanger, though this portion of the story comes to a satisfactory conclusion. I applaud K.D. Rose for investigating a different supernatural realm and look forward to what happens next in the series!

Meet Kim Headlee, author of 'Morning's Journey (The Dragon's Cove Chronicles Book 2)'

Meet Kim Headlee, author of The Dragon's Cove Chronicles. Please feel free to leave her some of your own comments and questions below!

What was the inspiration behind The Dragon's Cove Chronicles?
I have been interested in the Arthurian Legends since I was 8 years old, when my parents took me to see "Camelot" in the movie theaters (1967; yes, I'm dating myself but I don't care :). At age 9, I read a modern-English translation of Sir Thomas Malory's Le Morte d'Arthur cover-to-cover, and wrote my first adaptation shortly thereafter. As I performed more research over the years I became increasingly drawn to Guinevere's side of the story, so I've rather made it my mission to invent a version of her legend that doesn't give her a bum rap--as her male chroniclers, and a good many of her female chroniclers, have done down the centuries.

As far as the name of the series goes, early on in the development of DAWNFLIGHT I hit upon the idea of tribal tattoos representing the different Pictish clans, and I chose the mourning dove for Gyan's clan because it's the fastest of all birds in level flight. And Arthur is, of course, the dragon.
Morning's Journey is the second book in the series. How many more do you anticipate? When can we expect the next installment?
I am planning at least eight installments in the cycle. RAGING SEA is the sequel to MORNING'S JOURNEY and will be followed by ZENITH GLORY, EVENING SONG, and SUNDOWN OF A DREAM. Then I will go back in time to tell the story of Gyan and Arthur's parents in NIGHT'S DESTINY, and wrap up with BURNING JEWEL, which will describe Arthur's adolescence, rise to power, and his battle against Gyan's people which leads to the treaty & other events described in Volume 1, DAWNFLIGHT.

While it's rather unusual for an author to write =two= prequels to an existing volume, I decided upon this approach for two reasons: 1) Almost everyone dies in SUNDOWN OF A DREAM (c'mon, it's the Arthurian Legends--you =know= everyone's gotta die by the end!), and 2) This approach illustrates the cyclical nature of the epic literature.
Can you tell us anything about what's yet to come, without giving spoilers for this book?
RAGING SEA will concentrate on the story of Angusel (Lancelot) as he struggles to regain his name, honor, and position in society because of the events that transpired in MORNING'S JOURNEY.

Now that MORNING'S JOURNEY is available for sale, I have another writing project to wrap up & get into retail channels before returning full attention to RAGING SEA. I'm about 80 pages into the manuscript and hope to get RAGING SEA into readers' hands sometime in the next 6 months.
Which character speaks to you the most?
I have always felt a strong association with Gyan, and I'm sure this “bond” will remain even though she will take on lesser roles in subsequent books.
What is one of your favorite things about this series?
Last year, when I began to take a hard look at the MORNING'S JOURNEY manuscript in preparation for publication, I realized that one of the things I needed to fix was the pluralization of terminology that I had invented, based on Scottish Gaelic words. Adding an "s" to form plurals is an Anglo-Saxon construct, not a Scottish Gaelic one! This research inspired me to expand my terminology into entire sets of specific language the characters use to refer to themselves and to each other, endearments, insults, and even mythology.

I like to think Professor J.R.R. Tolkien would have been proud of me.
What drives you to write?
I write because my characters' stories are embedded in my head and stay there until the words are committed to the page! And then some. :)
You have lived in Seattle, Washington, D.C., and now rural Virginia. Which has been your favorite? Would you ever want to move back to one of these places?
Seattle, hands down. I love the juxtaposition of ocean and mountains! It's absolutely gorgeous. And yes, I would move back. In half a heartbeat.
Your grandmother was a childhood friend of the Russian Grand Duchess Anastasia. What kinds of stories did she share with you?
Nothing, due to a longtime family rift. All I know is what my Dad has been able to tell me over the years, which is precious little, unfortunately. That his mom and Anastasia were friends is all I can say about the relationship with any degree of certainty.
What is something readers may be surprised to learn about you?
I have "channeled" Mark Twain to write a sequel to one of his novels; this is the other project I mentioned earlier. In addition, I have written three screenplays: an adaptation of his work, an adaptation of my sequel to his work, and a completely original screenplay to complete the trilogy. That's all I'm willing to say about the project until the novel is much closer to publication, but a savvy reader who is familiar with Twain's corpus can probably guess which of his novels I've selected. ;-)
Is there anything else you would like to add?
In the coming months I also plan to release historical romance novels written under the pseudonym "Kimberly Iverson," including LIBERTY (originally published by HQN Books, 2006, featuring a female gladiator), and an as-yet unpublished novel titled SNOW IN JULY (post-Norman Conquest). There are a lot more stories brewing under the Kimberly Iverson brand, but these two will be the first out of the hopper.
Thank you so much for your time!
And thank you, Andrea, for this opportunity!

MJnewcover213x340Morning’s Journey

The greatest threat to Arthur & Gyan and their world is the enemy within.

In a violent age when enemies besiege Brydein and alliances shift as swiftly as the wind, stand two remarkable leaders: the Caledonian warrior-queen Gyanhumara and her consort, Arthur the Pendragon. Their fiery love is tempered only by their conviction to forge unity between their disparate peoples. Arthur and Gyan must create an impenetrable front to protect Brydein and Caledonia from land-lusting Saxons and the marauding Angli raiders who may be massing forces in the east, near Arthur’s sister and those he has sworn to protect.

But their biggest threat is an enemy within: Urien, Arthur’s rival and the man Gyan was treaty-bound to marry until she broke that promise for Arthur’s love. When Urien becomes chieftain of his clan, his increase in wealth and power is matched only by the magnitude of his hatred of Arthur and Gyan—and his threat to their infant son.

Morning’s Journey propels the reader from the heights of triumph to the depths of despair, through the struggles of some of the most fascinating characters in all of Arthurian literature. Those struggles are exacerbated by the characters’ own flawed choices. Gyan and Arthur must learn that while extending forgiveness to others may be difficult, forgiveness of self is the most excruciating—yet ultimately the most healing—step of the entire journey.

kimheadlee-headshotAbout the Author

Kim Headlee lives on a farm in southwestern Virginia with her family, cats, goats, and assorted wildlife. People & creatures come and go, but the cave and the 250-year-old house ruins -- the latter having been occupied as recently as the mid-20th century -- seem to be sticking around for a while yet.

Kim is a Seattle native (when she used to live in the Metro DC area, she loved telling people she was from "the other Washington") and a direct descendent of 20th century Russian nobility. Her grandmother was a childhood friend of the doomed Grand Duchess Anastasia, and the romantic yet tragic story of how Lydia escaped Communist Russia with the aid of her American husband will most certainly one day fuel one of Kim's novels. Another novel in the queue will involve her husband's ancestor, the 7th-century proto-Viking king of the Swedish colony in Russia.

For the time being, however, Kim has plenty of work to do in creating her projected 8-book Arthurian series, The Dragon's Dove Chronicles. She also writes other romantic historical fiction under the pseudonym "Kimberly Iverson."

Release Day Diva presents 'Supernova' by Elizabeth Sharp 10/15

On Cleo’s first day at St. Aloysius Gonzaga Academy, things get pretty weird pretty fast. After being confronted by a strangely hostile boy, she meets two girls and instantly bonds with them. Before long danger threatens the entire student body, in the form of a soul eating possessor fae. When her brother is savagely beaten and left in a coma, the girls decide to use their fae powers to become superheroes and stop the possessions.

They quickly learn things are a lot more complicated than they had ever imagined. A government plot that had begun when they were infants endangers them all, and a demented former soldier bent on revenge is after them. The line between friend and foe has become so blurry, Cleo has no idea who she can trust. Will their superhero plot help them save the day, or just get them killed?

Join us Tuesday, October 15th, 12 PM-4 PM CDT, as we celebrate the release of Supernova by author Elizabeth Sharp!! It's going to be a ton of fun, we have some great games and prizes for you all!! Hope you all can make it!
