The world already ended once. Now it's up to an outgunned negotiator, a disavowed spy, and an immersion-addicted hacker to stop it from happening again.

Centuries after the Fold, civilization is fragile. In the megacity of Naion, people live stacked in arcologies, most never going outside because the air is another enemy. Instead, freedom comes from technology: bodytechs modify the human form while synthetic intelligences whisper through brainware.

Now a new bridge between man and machine has emerged, one that could destroy humanity’s second shot at survival—or save it, depending on who gets to it first....

Adasha Denali is one of the government’s best dispute resolution specialists, but when a scandal threatens to destabilize the city and end her career, she’ll need more than words to escape the fallout. Venturing out of her office and into a fight for the future, she’ll team up with a disavowed spy, learning the hard way that betrayal wears many faces, and one of them may be her own.

Neon Nik is an immersion-addicted IT freelancer struggling to pay off debts to circling loan sharks. Threats of dismemberment become the least of his problems when a surprise inheritance throws him into a vortex of corporate kill squads willing to burn the city down to find him.

Engineered spies, high-tech mercenaries, and immersion hackers collide in this first gripping installment of the Centricity Cycle.

Read an excerpt:
JUSTICE OFFICER NEIL Linz watched Adasha from across the table with bulbous eyes set in a surgically smooth face. The conference room lights reflected slashes of crystal white along the hard edges of his cheekbones, jaw, and the solid metallic wave one might call hair.

“Then to summarize: to your knowledge, Gabriel never shared classified information with any unauthorized persons, never lied to or withheld pertinent information from superiors, nor did he ever act in a way counter to the goals of the CPCA?”

Three dozen questions in and he hadn’t blinked once. No eyelids. Fully synthetic ocular implants didn’t require cover as they could be deactivated, but most people had some for aesthetic reasons. Linz obviously enjoyed the discomfort his perpetual stare caused; it was more unsettling than the facial canvases of self-mutilators.

“As I said, no, he did not.” Adasha clasped her hands together on the polished table, posture a vertical line, and stared straight back.

“Mmm.” Linz glanced at the folder in front of him, pushed aside a sheet of vaper to get at one beneath. His use of the physical medium felt like a strategic choice, as if to emphasize how solid his thoughts were. “When did you first meet Gabriel?”

Adasha wondered if Linz’s disregard of honorifics was meant to rile her. “Fourteen years ago.”

“You were a legislative director for Assembly Representative Jenov Quamay at the time.”

“I was an assistant.” It seemed Linz had made the mistake on purpose. To test the accuracy of her responses, she assumed. “The title of director came a year later.”

“Legislative director to CPCA senior analyst to interagency coordinator…. People usually climb in the other direction, no?”

A chat with Gaylon Greer, author of 'The Price of Sanctuary'

Enjoy a sneak peak into the life of author Gaylon Greer! Please leave him your own comments and questions below.

Any weird things you do when you’re alone?
They’re private and personal. That’s why I do them alone.
What is your favorite quote, and why?
I’m big on quotes, so this required thought. I guess my favorite is the closing verse of William Ernest Henley’s Invictus: “It matters not how strait the gate, how charged with punishments the scroll, I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul.” The lines encapsulate how I have tried to live my life.
What is your favorite ice cream flavor?
I’m a plain-vanilla man.
Which mythological creature are you most like?
Probably the chimera. Their foreparts, middle, and tail are distinctly different, and my life has been pretty much like that; three distinct phases that have little in common.
What are four things you can’t live without?
There is nothing a person can’t live without, other than food, air, and water. No matter how much we cherish something, how sincerely we believe it is essential to our very existence, the instinct for survival keeps mentally healthy people striving for another breath no matter what is taken from them. Forgive me for being so literal here, but I’ve always tried to avoid dependencies, whether physiological or emotional, that distort life’s trajectory.

BLURB:

Accustomed to a life of privilege, Shelby Cervosier new finds herself running for her life. Accused of killing an American Immigration agent, Shelby has undertaken a mission on behalf of a secretive American espionage agency in exchange for a promise of legal amnesty and political asylum in America. Now, however, the agent who coerced her into accepting the assignment wants her dead to cover up the bungled mission. Two hit men compete for the bounty that has been placed on her head.

Shelby and her younger sister flee into America’s heartland in search of a safe haven. They find only fear and danger, however, when they are captured by one of the assassins, Hank.

Prepared to do whatever it takes to keep her sister safe, Shelby cooperates with her capturer. Deciding that his feelings for them are more important than bounty money, Hank takes the sisters under his wing and secrets then away to his hideout: a farm in a remote corner of Colorado. They become a part of his extended family; they have finally found sanctuary.

Their safe new world is shattered when the second hit man, a relentless psychopath, captures Shelby’s little sister and uses her to lure Shelby and her lover into a middle-of-the-night showdown on an isolated Rocky Mountain battleground.

Read an excerpt:
After breakfast, while helping Latica with the dishes, Sheby decided to face the issue head-on. “About last night.” She concentrated on her dishwashing as she spoke, and avoided the other woman's eyes. “I'm sorry if I offended anyone.”

Latica paused in scraping dishes. “I told you my sister died three years ago, told you Hank never brought anyone to the farm before you. There was only one conclusion we could draw. None of us understood why you slept in the study.”

Shelby felt feverish. She knew her face must look sunburned, and it increased her embarrassment even more. “This is awkward.”

“It shouldn't be. Are you protected?”

“Hank protects me. That's why I'm—oh, you mean . . .”

Latica grinned. “No contraceptives?”

“I didn't anticipate the need.”

“You should take care of that. Are you and Hank still picking up Carmen today?”

“I think so.”

“Stop in Grand Junction and ask Hank's doctor to write a prescription. You'll need a morning-after pill, too.”

“Morning after?”

“For last night.”

“Of course.” She felt like a freshman on her first day of high school. “I'll ask Hank to—” He crossed the hall into the study. “He's awake.”

Latica filled a coffee cup. “He'll need this. Go.”

Shelby wasn't certain how he would feel about their night, and she didn't want to be presumptuous. Maybe he regretted it or felt she had taken advantage of him. Perhaps it had just been recreation. She found him sitting at the computer and placed his coffee by the keyboard. “Good morning.”

He lifted her hand to his lips. “Hi. Just about to check my mail.” He sipped the coffee. “Delicious, thanks.”

“You need to thank Latica. She made it while I overslept.”

“She'll excuse you.”

“She heard us last night.”

Looking up from the computer, he gave her a crooked grin. “They probably heard you in Grand Junction.”

'Room 1515' Review and Book Tour

Welcome to the Room 1515 Book Blog Tour!

Book Blurb:

International Thriller. A female agent named Peacock is sent on a mission to woo and win the heart of the world’s most powerful powerbroker. Her job is to learn his secrets and foil his plans. Instead, she falls in love. A story of the balance of world financial power, betrayal, and romance.

From Amazon:

Pour two ounces of the most powerful financier in the world. Mix in two ounces of America's most treacherous female spy. Stir in betrayal and love. Room 1515!

My Thoughts:

There are tons of spy novels out there, but this one is different. The ultimate plot is for world domination. The paradox is that Pendleton, probably the richest man in the world, is using money and murder to create one unified world government. In that future state, there will be no money and even stiffer punishments for murder. He claims to be a religious man, faithful to the lessons taught by the Bible, yet frequently acts against them.

"Peacock" is the woman designated by the Herculean group to take him out and foil his plot. She lost her entire family and was the sole survivor in a horrific accident when she was younger. Since then, she has numbed herself to normal feelings for anyone, yet can't help falling somewhat in love with Pendleton. This potentially has disastrous consequences should anyone find out.

Dozens of characters plot against each other, employing fantastical methods that could eventually become a reality. The reader is let into their thoughts and knows whom to trust. Or do you? You're never quite sure if you like the characters, or not, yet feel sorry for Peacock as her dilemma unfolds.

Room 1515 is a interesting read that keeps you guessing as the pages keep turning. I'm wondering if there will be another?
