Meet Bonnie R. Paulson, author of 'Riding Redemption (Redemption Series #2)'

RidingRedemptionbanner

It is my pleasure to introduce to you one of my favorite authors, Bonnie R. Paulson. Whether it's romance, or zombies, or a serial killer, one of her stories will appeal to any reader.

What was the inspiration for this series?
My initial western romance series, the Lonely Lace series, has a villain who I felt might leave behind more destruction in his wake than we realize. The Redemption Series falls off that theory and has really taken the idea and rolled with it.
Will there be more books in this series?
Oh yes, there are five total in this series. Riding for Redemption is only book 2.
To which character did you most relate?
Sara Beth in Riding for Redemption. She has this opportunity to take this whole entire pile of rotten lemons and either wallow in the acidy sadness or make lemon meringue pie. She amazes me at her tenacity. I don’t know that I relate to her that way, but I do admire her which is saying a lot.
What do readers need to know about this series?
The Redemption Series is a sweet romance series. I don’t go into the sex or even the in depth nuances of the relationships. The girls have their own journeys they’re on and the boys complete their discoveries. It makes for a fun series.
You write so many wonderful books in so many different genres. What compels you to mix it up so much?
That is so kind of you to say. Thank you! Have you ever sat down to the same meal, over and over and over, and one day realized that you wanted more choices? That’s what kept happening to me. I love reading different genres because there are so many different stories out there. Since I write similar to how I read, the multiple genres comes naturally. Many people tell me it’s career suicide, but I have to tell you, I believe whole-heartedly that if I’m bored, than the reader will be, too. And either option is unacceptable to me.
Do you have a favorite genre to write?
Oh that is a great question. This is like do I have a favorite genre to read. I’m actually not partial to any one genre – writing or reading. I would have to say that if the story doesn’t grab me by the first page, I’m not interested – and that’s seriously whether I’m writing or reading a book. I’ve discarded many ideas because they didn’t grab me right away.
If you had to live in one of your books, which one would it be?
I would have to go with Barely Alive – the zombie series. Paul is just so dang cute and fun and the science is crazy. And I’m really done TALKING about the zombie apocalypse. Let’s have it and be done with it already, so we can go back to planning our next big adventure.
Your tagline is "It's all about survival." Tell us more about that.
Oh, Andrea! That tagline was a long time coming. I didn’t realize it until a good friend pointed it out to me one night. Then I took a hard honest look at myself and realized that everything I did and wrote and read centered around survival – whether it was physical, spiritual, mental, emotional, romantic, it doesn’t matter, I’m always concerned with surviving. Making it through another second, minute, day, month, etc. For me? It’s all about survival.
You're mother to six kids. How do you balance all of them and your writing?
I just giggled. I don’t. I think I’m going insane. But that’s between us. No, seriously, I don’t entertain my writing until they’re in bed at night. I run a tight ship and bed time for all little people is 745 pm. I don’t care if they read or whatever in bed, but that’s when they go down. I then talk with the hubs for a little bit, sit down and do a little bit of marketing and correspondence, formatting, or whatever else needs done. Then I check in with my writing partner and we writing from about 830 to 11 pm. She goes longer, but I have very young kids who get up at 6 am no matter what. So that makes it my wakeup time, too.
Do you have a writing routine?
Yes, I’m very disciplined. I map out exactly what I want to get done and have strict deadlines. If I don’t, I find that I just don’t do much… besides Facebook and Pinterest to death.
You're also a prolific reader and like to promote fellow indie authors. In addition to your own books, what/who else should we be reading?
Oh! This is a great question!

I’m going to suggest a couple based on genres right now. (I usually read clean (fade-to-black sex and minimal language like mine so that’s what I suggest. But remember, I don’t let up on the gore myself, so I tend to read that.)
Magic/paranormal – M.R. Polish
Horror/time Travel – Jill Cooper
I’m looking for a contemporary author to knock my socks off. I’d love some suggestions in the comments! Thanks so much!
What is something readers may be surprised to know about you?
People are always surprised to learn that I’m LDS (Mormon). Makes me laugh nervously… hehehe.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
I’m so grateful that you had me today. Thank you, thank you! Your questions were so much fun and well thought out. Again, thank you for having me!
Thank you for writing and for your time today!

'Just a Theory (A Quantum Love Adventure)' by Annie Wood

Just a Theory
by Annie Wood

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
Just when Martin thinks his life will never go anywhere remotely interesting, he meets an eccentric quantum physicist who gives him the ability to travel to his parallel lives where, in one of them, he runs a successful bed and breakfast with his beautiful wife in Italy.
Only problem is, Martin has no control over any of this.
Read an excerpt:
~Out of Body~
Pages, words, sentences float across Martin’s mind as he lie in bed.
You are in a state of consciousness similar to a twilight between sleep and full waking awareness. To find the answers, simply tell yourself, ‘I will now have an out-of-body experience.’ Trust. Let go. Explore!
If the professor wants to play games with him, then fine, he’ll play along. Just the mere chance of seeing Abby again is worth feeling stupid for a minute while he’s alone in his bedroom. Without much feeling, he repeats the mantra...
“I will now have an out-of-body experience. I will now have an out-of-body experience.”
He’s getting sleepy, but he manages to repeat the sentences with a tad more commitment.
“I will now have an out-of-body experience. I will now have an…”
At that moment Martin hears a loud POP. His body begins to vibrate violently. He watches, in utter amazement, as his spirit actually detaches as a carbon-copy of his physical body. His spirit self looks down upon his physical self, which is still in bed, motionless. This fact freaks out the spirit self which, in turn, startles the physical self. The sudden fear of both selves makes the physical self quickly suck the spirit self back into him like a high-powered-spirit Hoover.
A bewildered Martin stumbles into the bathroom to splash cold water on his face and reassure his reflection in the mirror. “It’s cool.”
Review of 'Whiskey Witches: Season 1' by S. M. Blooding
WWS1banner
WW-S1-6Detective Paige Whiskey comes from a long line of witches. They may not all be the most powerful, but they are outspoken and supportive of their community. She alone has no gifts. She can’t summon fire, can’t read minds. She knows the arcane. She’s studied it. That, along with her connection to the Whiskey Witches, lands her some pretty strange cases.
Like the sacrificial murders of St. Francisville, Louisiana. There’s a killer on the loose, choosing people in a vain attempt to raise a demon. Not just any demon, though. A man born long ago, made a demon in order to protect the Gate to Hell.
Together with demon hunter, Dexx Colt, her kitchen-witch grandmother, and her paranormal investigator brother-in-law, they unravel a conspiracy far bigger than a few simple murders, and re-discover Paige’s gift.
She’s a demon summoner and she’s key to the killer’s plan.
**My thoughts**
This book reads like a Netflix marathon of a TV show. The episodes are engrossing and quick. leaving you with just enough of a cliffhanger at the end to entice you to continue with the next episode, but not so much that you are going to be swearing and throwing things while waiting for the next installment to appear. I started this season, one episode at a time, waiting for the next one to be available. Now, you all can just grab the entire season all at once and don't have to deal with the waiting.
I admit that at first I didn't like Paige. Okay, so she is a demon summoner. But, she once tried to use her gift for something so heinous that she lost her family and so much more by doing so. As more of her story is revealed, though, she softens, and I softened toward her. While being a demon summoner is kind of cool, it also really sucks, leaving her vulnerable at times, despite the strength she has within herself and from her cohorts.
Dexx is fun. He knows how to handle Paige and her attitude, while still making himself endearing. You could say I had a bit of a crush on him.
The mystery of the rampant deaths and how to make the demons stop is intriguing. It has been a while since I read a paranormal mystery. This one was well worth the time and effort. I look forward to Season 2!
Rave reviews!
"Tragedy is not born in the destiny of a bad man, but rather destiny born into a tragic world."
"That moment when you finish a book, close the cover, and look around, realizing that the people around you have no idea you've just had a Significant Emotional Event at the hands of a paperback." - Brandon Withey
"Not since Stephen King’s "The Stand" has such an enthralling apocalyptic thriller with a good versus evil theme graced the bookstores."
About the author:
Jay Plemons' life is nothing short of ordinary. From an aspiring chef, carpenter, educator, musician, husband, and father, nothing ever seems too busy when adding yet another hat into the mix as a fiction novelist. With a degree in music business, and a minor in English from Middle Tennessee State University, the aspirations to continue his journey in the arts, has followed Jay to write the Last Light Falling series, which has not only touched on some of his personal experiences, but has also helped him further explore the heightened convictions of faith. Though his first love is music, writing has profoundly changed the way he expresses himself to others, which has recently impacted his son to follow in those same emotional footsteps. When Jay isn't drumming, writing is his cure to life's distractions.
Jay's only philosophy is to enjoy whatever time you can whenever you can, with whoever you can, because the uncertainties that tomorrow may bring will have a profound impact on how you give your time today. If we could all just stop for a moment and enjoy the little things in life that make the big things worthwhile, our troubles would all seem inconsequential.
Raised in a fundamentally sound Christian home, Jay's quest for knowledge was under a jaded, but compassionate moral compass. But with all questions about life, there's never a good time for harsh scrutiny, but being a child of God, timing is everything. While scrutiny may come under experiences, it's our experiences that breeds humility, and that's what bridges our relationship with God. This is the true nature in which man may take several paths before realizing his chosen path was never meant to be in judgment, hidden in shame and guilt, or riddled with harm. We may not understand the world around us, but comprehending its vast secrets was never the true intentions of our being. We were called to serve one another and accept a gift greater than our minds can possibly fathom--love.
'Crashers A Tale of "Cappers" and "Hammers"' by Lindy S. Hudis
Crashers
by Lindy S. Hudis
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

BLURB:

Fraudulent car accidents is a multi-million dollar racket, involving unscrupulous medical providers, personal injury attorneys, and the cooperating passengers involved in the accidents and who also receive a portion of the illegal proceeds. Such is the fate of newly engaged, Nathan and Shari, whose joy is tempered by the dark cloud of mounting debt. A chance encounter with a stranger in whom Shari confides her troubles, proves fortuitous: he tells her of a get-rich-quick scheme that will put her and her fiance on easy street. Seduced by the chance to move from hard times to good times in no time, she finds herself acting as a stuffed passenger the victim in a staged auto accident. Shari gets her payday, but getting out and breaking free of the insurance fraud underworld will take nothing short of a miracle. A modern day cautionary tale that uncovers how the innocent get lured into the scheme of cappers and hammers.

Read an excerpt:
As the blare of the clock radio on the night table jolted her awake, Shari Barnes rubbed her eyes, blew her long brown hair out of her face, and snuggled into Nathan Townsend’s chest. She curled her body around his middle and took a deep whiff of his salty, masculine neck.

But she couldn’t ignore the voice on the radio.

“Monday morning traffic,” she sighed.

Nathan matched the sigh and put his arms around her. “At least you don’t have to drive over the hill.”

“Yeah, I would just die if I had to drive into Beverly Hills every day to work in a beautiful office.”

Shari giggled and disappeared under their thick blue comforter for a few more moments of sleepy-headed bliss. She felt Nathan stretch up, and a moment later the radio shut off. Then he slid down next to her in the single bed they shared in their Studio City apartment, a few blocks north of Ventura Boulevard. The constant drone and rumble of another L.A. morning came clearly through the open window: cars honking, rock music blaring, the frantic scurrying sounds of the film shoot a few blocks away. Shari ran her bare feet up the inside of Nathan’s thigh.

He jumped. “Shit, your feet are cold.” He pushed her legs off of him.

“What time is it?” she murmured between kisses.

“Um, seven.” He nuzzled her neck and she felt him becoming erect against her.

“No time for that!” She threw off the covers. “Gotta be at work on time for once; gotta get my asp out of bed.”

“There’s a snake in the bed?” Nathan grabbed her with both hands and gave her belly gentle nips.

“Yeah, of the one-eyed variety.”

Shari leaped to the floor and padded naked into the bathroom. She turned the hot water in the shower to high and stepped in, filling the small bathroom with steam.

She had just poured a green drop of shampoo into her palm and was running her hands together when the flimsy yellow and white shower curtain flew back and Nathan grinned in at her. She smiled back, surprised by neither his arrival nor the partial hard-on that preceded him.

“Mind if we join you?” he asked.

“There’s enough shampoo for everybody,” Shari said as she rubbed her hands across her scalp.

He stepped into the stall, pulled the curtain closed and began to lather her hair for her. She put her hands on his back, feeling the taut muscles and the water streaming there, but did not reach down between them. It took him about five seconds to realize it and hold her away.

“You okay?”

“Fine….”

“Don’t lie; I can always tell when you have something on your mind.”

“You know me better than I know me,” she said.

“You know it.” He pushed her wet hair over her shoulders. “Come on, give.”

“I was thinking maybe I should get a second job.”

“You’re worrying about money again?”

“Well, I have to shoot my student thesis film this year or I won’t graduate. But where am I going to get the money I need?”

“How much do you need?”

“At least five figures.”

Blurb:

Plus-sized divorced nurse and single mom, Marli Meadows, is tired of the monotonous rhythm of an unfulfilled life. She is seemingly stuck in a perpetual cycle of low self-esteem and bad decisions. With her daughter approaching adulthood, she decides to make a change and leaves her dysfunctional parental ties and going-nowhere relationship with an occasional boyfriend behind in exchange for a travel nursing job in another state. Enter the handsome Chris King, who oozes confidence and pursues Marli relentlessly. Chris is white. Marli is African American. And therein lies the first of her issues with him. Your Love Is King is an Edgy Inspirational Interracial Romance novel that chronicles one woman's journey toward self-acceptance and love.

*This is not your ordinary inspirational novel*

Read an excerpt:
Bill’s was true to the words of its slogan: “So Good, You’ll Think Grandma Made It.” Sunday’s dinner with Mama was much more relaxed than Saturday’s dinner with my dad, but true to form, Mama eventually let the liquor take over her inhibitions and her true feelings about me began to surface.

“So, Marlena Marie,” she slurred. “Whatcha been up to? Got a new man?”
I wasn’t sure how to answer that question. Mama knew about Darius and had even met him once. She didn’t approve of him, of course, but in her mind, any man was better than no man at all.
“Um, no,” I answered.
Her mouth spread into a knowing smirk. “Mm-hmm. Still with that little thug boy, huh?”
I sighed. “I’m still seeing Darius, if that’s who you’re referring to.”

She shook her head. “Well, I guess if you can’t do any better. I’ve never had that problem, as you know. Always had good, hard-working men in my life.” She reached over and patted Fred on the arm. “You’ve gotta lose that weight, baby girl. Your choices are just so limited by your size. When I was your age, I was a perfect ten,” she said and then took a bite out of a chicken leg.
Now, that was a lie. I’d seen pictures of my mother taken when she was my age. She might not have been as heavy as I was, but she was no ten. I knew if I tried to argue the fact with her, she’d say I was disrespecting her. So I held my tongue.
“Now, Edna, leave her alone,” Fred said.
She held a hand up at him. “Hush, Fred.” She turned to me and continued. “It’s the truth. Look at Tiffany. She’s beautiful and she’ll have no trouble finding a good husband. You shoulda just stayed with Tim. At least he had a good job.”
I dropped my head and stared at my plate for a moment. I guess it had slipped her mind that Tim actually left me, not the other way around. I drew in a breath and exhaled. “Mama, I respect your opinion, but I’m fine, really. I’m not worried about having a man.”
“Mm-hmm. That’s what everyone who doesn’t have a man says. But I’m here to tell you. You need a man.”

Meet author Suzanna Linton

Suzanna J. Linton was born in Charleston, SC but grew up in rural Orangeburg County. At age eight, she tried to read The Secret Garden by herself. After following her mother around for a day, asking questions about the Yorkshire accent, she gave up, but that didn't deter her in developing a deep appreciation for books and the worlds to which they open. A few years later, she wrote her first poem, which eventually led her to try writing fiction.

In 2002, she went to the summer program at the SC Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities, where she refined her poetry and wrote her first decent short story (before this, she mostly wrote novels along with her poetry). In 2003, Suzanna began attending Francis Marion University, where she graduated with a Bachelor's in English.

Today, she continues to live in South Carolina with her husband and their menagerie of animals.

You can read more about Suzanna and her current projects at suzannalinton.com.

All her life, Desdemona has seen things others haven’t. Dragons, knights, dwarves, kids with three eyes. The break comes when her father's disappearance drives her into a life of sex and alcoholism. Eventually, she struggles free. She begins to build a life for herself and learns how to ignore the "phantoms".

At her mother’s death, Desdemona returns to a home haunted with memories but she is determined to not be shaken from what little normalcy she has. However, when her brother is murdered and she uncovers a family secret, Desdemona realizes that she may not be insane after all. What she sees may actually be real. And what she sees has begun to tell her to go with them to their world, that she is in danger, and that she has something others would kill for.

Clara will have to see through both the fog of war, and the fog of her own heart, to save a nation...

Sold into slavery as a child, and rendered mute by the horrors she suffered, Clara's life extends no further than the castle kitchens and their garden. Those who know about her just think of her as the dull mute girl who may be a little soft in the head, not knowing that she carries within herself a precious gift: the ability to see the future. This is a gift she keeps secret, though, for fear of persecution.

However, a vision prompts her to prevent a murder, shoving her not only into the intrigues and gilded life of the nobility, but also into a civil war brewing in her country. As events unfold, and she is drawn deeper into the conflict, she meets an old friend, makes a new one, and begins to unearth secrets better left buried.

Driven to learn the truth about the war, and about her friends, Clara embarks on a journey that takes her from her beloved mountains to the very Capital itself, Bertrand, where she is confronted by an evil both ancient and twisted. The only problem is, her own anger and prejudices are the catalysts her enemy needs to complete its plans. If she is not careful, not only will the entire nation be lost, but her own soul as well.
