A Cowboy Billionaire Sister's Ranch Wedding (Hornsby Hill Ranch Book 1) by Christina Lockhart

Hayden Hornsby had dedicated his life to helping raise his brothers and sister, and run the ranch alongside his grandfather. If you ever tangled with the Hornsby's, you would know that they weren't ones to fool with. They're rich— powerful — pretty dang smart too— but the thing about it is— people believed they operated on some kind of curse.

Jemma, Hayden's sister, was ready to get married to Dustin Greenwich. Dustin's mama never really cared too much for the Hornsby's. She felt like they thought they were too good for anybody. In a way, they were like the Montagues and the Capulets— their feud wasn't as intense— but Lisa Greenwich made it seem like their families were forbidden to be together. It was insane the number of things Jemma and Dustin had to endure so that they could be together.

So why in the hell of all the girls Hayden had to fall for— he had to pick, Jessica Greenwich. The one-woman, Jemma, did not deem good enough for him—and he was the one man her mother didn't want near her daughter.

Review of The Murderous Macaron by Ana T. Drew

Welcome to the review tour for The Murderous Macaron by Ana T. Drew! Today I'm sharing with you an excerpt and my thoughts on this cozy mystery set in one of my favorite places. Be sure to follow the tour for even more! Let the author know what you think and ask her questions along the way. And best of luck in the giveaway!

Julie has her freedom, a dream job as a pastry chef, and a corpse growing cold on her floor...

Welcome to Beldoc, a small town in the heart of Provence, imbued with lavender and fresh baked bread! You can idle around, or you can puzzle out a murder mystery.

When a man dies on her watch in her pâtisserie, newly divorced chef Julie Cavallo is dismayed. It isn’t that she’s a suspect. The local gendarmerie captain signs off the death as a natural event. A heart attack. But for a reason she won’t discuss, Julie suspects Maurice Sauve was poisoned. What’s a girl to do? She’ll ignore the risk and seek justice for Maurice on her own!

Well, not quite on her own. Julie’s eccentric grandmother, her snarky sister and her geeky sous chef are keen to help. The team’s amateurism is a challenge. But there’s also the pesky matter of no evidence, no clues, and soon, no body. The murder—if it was a murder—was planned and executed flawlessly.

Can a small-town baker solve the perfect crime?

"The Murderous Macaron" is a twisty whodunnit mystery perfect for fans of Janet Evanovich, Alexander McCall Smith, Jana DeLeon and Lilian Jackson Braun.

Read an excerpt:
My grandmother’s doga class—the only doga class in Beldoc and the surrounding area—is as inspiring as it is wacky. Probably more wacky than inspiring, at least to an uninitiated onlooker.

A group of people in yoga outfits are scattered over the deck, facing Rose.

Dressed in comfy yet formfitting yoga pants and a soft cotton top, my nimble grandma leads her troops across their mats to nirvana.

Boy, I hope I look like her when I’m seventy-four!

Pooches of various shapes, colors, and sizes roam from person to person and drool on the mats. Some take part in their parent’s poses. A tiny Yorkshire tries to perform a suspicious sequence involving his lower abdomen, a human shin, and some vigorous rubbing. A couple of lovebirds in the corner sniff each other’s posteriors while wagging their tails. An overweight French bulldog launches into an elaborate snore.

Most of the humans are gray-haired women, well-groomed and refined, but definitely second division compared to Rose. There are a few men in the group. One of them is Rose’s notary, Maître Serge Guichard. A widower in his late sixties with a neat little beard, he handled the purchase of the pâtisserie for me at a reduced rate. Judging by the glances he steals at Rose, I think I know why.

The group also includes a young couple in their late twenties. I had a chat with them last time I showed up before the class was over. Both adore dogs but their place is too small to adopt one. Thanks to Rose’s class, they can spend time with other people’s dogs twice a week.

Under my grandma’s guidance, the yogis and yoginis do the sun salutation while the dogis and doginis do whatever they please.

**My thoughts**
I'm a sucker for a cozy mystery that takes place in bakery. Throw in Provence as a setting, and I'm totally in. (I spent time there twice when I was in school.)

This was a really cute cozy mystery. It starts the day after a man drops dead in Julie's backing class. It has been declared a natural cause, but her instincts are telling her differently. So she goes all Jessica Fletcher and decides to investigate on her own. (I was reminded a lot of Jessica while reading this, possibly because I have been watching Murder She Wrote lately. But bits and pieces really did remind me of her as she pursued her questioning and fact-gathering.)

She gets some help from her younger sister, her patisserie employee, and her grandmother. And can I just tell you how much I adore Ruth? I mean, can we all grow up to become a woman who does doga (yoga with dogs) classes? Each of them manages to find a little piece to the puzzle, but Julie is the one who puts it all together. And the twist may surprise you.

I wanted more of the psychic element to be developed in this book, but it looks like it may come into play in later stories? It's not a cliffhanger ending, but there's definitely a sequel that is introduced at the end. I am interested in checking it out.

Thank you to the author and to Goddess Fish Promotions for fulfilling my review request. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

The Rose by PD Alleva

Dystopian fiction is quite popular right now as we kind of feel like we are living in a dystopian society. So enjoy this excerpt from the science fiction thriller The Rose, new from PD Alleva. And then get to know him a little bit better in this interview. Download your own copy and then follow the tour for more. Best of luck entering the giveaway at the end!

A masterful, dystopian science fiction thriller of underground genetic experiments, telepathic evil greys, mysterious rebellion, conspiracy, martial arts, and Alien Vampires.

Sandy Cox believed WW3 was over. But for those Alien Vampires, War Has Just Begun.

Forty-eight hours after a World War III treaty is signed Sandy Cox awakens in an underground compound unable to move. Tied to machines she screams for help but no one answers. At least NO ONE HUMAN.

And they’ve taken her unborn child.

Enter Phil, a rebel freedom fighter who has had more than his share of Alien Vampires. Armed with THE BLADES, a sacred alien martial art, he enters the compound on a mission to find Sandy. But as he battles his way through the compound, Phil discovers Sandy has her own agenda. Finding her stolen child is all that matters.

But the vampires have their own plan and Sandy’s baby is at the heart of their diabolical plot. Joined by a crew of rogue soldiers, they must navigate the underground compound, battling genetically mutated humans, aliens and monsters.

When battling Alien Vampires, one thing is certain…Get Ready To Bleed!

Fans of The Hunger Games, George RR Martin, VE Schwab, Star Wars and Ancient Aliens will be fascinated by this high-powered, intelligent, edge of your seat dystopian sci-fi action thriller.

Read an excerpt:
The blades were unharmed. The blades are a unique contraption with thin handles held in the palms, clamps that wrapped around the wrist and just above the elbow, connected by a thin, almost string like plastic. The metal blade descended from the handles down across the arm bone to the elbow clamp and locked into place. The metal they were made from was not of this earth and was able to collapse inside the handles and wrist clamp like tin foil crumples inside a fist. But this metal was strong and solid and unmatched to any substance on earth. The handles when pressed by the index finger would ignite the blades down the arm, locking in place. Another unique feature were the handles, fitted comfortably in the palm, when pressed with the thumbs would ignite claws of steel. A useful tool when needing to climb walls. Robyn had spent years teaching Phil the art of Kobudo Tonfa. An art he’d become supremely confident with.

Phil’s stare drifted to the full blood moon rising over the compound. Eyes wide, thinking: You know what that means. There’s more under the moon tonight than just alien vampires. And they come with teeth. The moon’s red glow crept across the landscape as Phil dipped his chin to his chest, grinding his teeth. Four simple words on the tip of his tongue…

“Get ready to bleed.”

Do you have any tattoos? Where? When did you get it/them? Where are they on your body?

I have one tattoo, the New York Yankees symbol on my right leg. Got it on May 5, 2005 when the Yankees were in a terrible slump. After the tattoo Tino Martinez went on a hitting streak belting in a record number of home runs. I’ve thought about another tattoo but I’m not sure, possible, but not a definite. Have a few design ideas, something cosmic and spiritual that includes the names of my children.

Is your life anything like it was two years ago?

Yes, it is the same. With the exception of our 2020 covid quarantine, my life hasn’t changed much in the last two years. Writing, editing, marketing. Wife, kids, reading, playing, going to the beach. Not much has changed.

How long have you been writing?

All my life. Started writing fan fiction at a very early age of any movie I would become obsessed with at the time. Ghostbusters, The Goonies, even Rambo. Also wrote my own short stories as far back as second grade. I remember a story I wrote about second grade girl who brings a pet hamster to school and the hamster escapes. Ten years later, the girl returns to the school and the hamster, whose been surviving on crayons for the past decade and has grown to monster like status, begins to terrorize the school. This is when the schoolgirl, now in high school, shows up to tame the savage beast and bring the big fella home.

I wrote my first full novel in the sixth grade, twelve years old to be exact. The story, a sci-fi fantasy, was inspired by a dream and was more than likely a result of an overactive imagination, reading Tolkien’s The Hobbit, and Dungeons and Dragons. The story revolved around a group of unlikely heroes who are tasked with finding the book of the dead, having to troll through a dark forest, and a hell of a lot of monsters, black magic, and sorcery, to arrive at the castle of the dead, as I called it. And if they failed the world would be covered in darkness.

What advice would you give a new writer just starting out?

Write what you love and what you know. Research the industry, take advice from fellow authors but make sure you learn what you love to do and not just follow what everyone else is doing. You’ve got to find your own way. The indie author journey is a marathon not a sprint to the finish line. Take your time and do everything with patience and care, knowing that the seeds your planting now will manifest when you least expect it. And above all, love every minute of the journey, find joy in what you’re doing no matter what obstacles come crashing down to block your path. Just step over them and keep moving on.

Tell us something about your newest release that is NOT in the blurb.

I struggle with this question. Why? Because I want the reader to discover the many twists and turns, including a number of different alien and monster species that are in the book and not in the blurb. As a reader myself, I don’t want to know much about the book I’m reading other than the genre and how and where I came across finding the book (usually Goodreads or a friend’s recommendation). Unless, of course, it’s a new book by one of my go to authors, in which case I still don’t want to know too much. I don’t even read the description because I want to be as surprised as possible. Writing is the same; I’m usually as surprised as the reader to find those little tidbits, nuances, and unexpected revelations and bombshells.

I know, I apologize, just answer the question right? In that case what I will say about this topic is for the reader to be on the lookout and very, very leery of the grey alien, Mono, who is a featured character in The Rose Vol. 1. Mono was an incredible character to write. She had so many surprises up her sleeve I was in awe over her resolve and devious evil ways. And when she begins using her telepathic and telekinetic mind to tear apart alien vampires, well, the entire story takes on a whole new game.

Review of Pairs With Life by John Taylor

Welcome to the book blast tour for Pairs With Life by John Taylor! I had the honor of reviewing this book and am sharing my thoughts with you today. There's also an excerpt for you to enjoy. Be sure to follow the tour for more and let the author know what you think along the way! Plus be sure to enter the great giveaway!

Forty-eight-year-old Corbett Thomas, a one-hit wonder of the 90s, now works as the lead sommelier at Napa Valley’s hippest restaurant. Set to become one of the few Master Sommeliers in the world, Corbett self-destructs during his final exam, ruining his last chance at capturing the stardom and adoration he got a taste for in his youth.

When billionaire game designer, Brogan Prescott, asks Corbett to consult on a major vineyard acquisition, Corbett sees it as a shot at redemption, until he learns of Brogan’s ridiculous vision of a virtual-reality, Woke Ant Colony Winery. Disgusted, Corbett decides to buy the vineyard himself and preserve its magic and history. Cashless, clueless, and with his reputation in tatters, Corbett enlists the help of his bass-player-turned-lawyer Seamus O’Flaherty, who may have finally lost his stomach for Corbett’s bad ideas; his uber-rational daughter Remy, who wants Corbett to uncork some family secrets he’d rather leave in the cellar; and Sydney Cameron, whose sudden appearance in Corbett’s life may repair his heart or shatter it forever.

With their help-and sometimes despite it-Corbett discovers what Brogan has known all along: a four-billion-dollar gold deposit lies beneath the vineyard. If Brogan acquires the property, the ensuing gold rush will destroy Napa Valley.

But if Corbett can get out of his own way long enough to purchase the vineyard first, he’ll be faced with the hardest decision of his life: take the fame and fortune he desperately craves, or save the soul of the valley he loves so much.

Read an excerpt:
Let’s get one thing clear - I won that bet fair and square, even though I cheated.

I blame the whole thing on Rick Dornin, who was being particularly douchey that night. I used to be able to choose whichever party I wanted to serve without question. That is, until Dornin arrived at Appellation with his anal-retentive online calendar and industrial-grade Napoleon complex.

Yes, that Appellation. The most coveted dining experience in all of Napa Valley, and one of only nine restaurants in America awarded three Michelin stars. It took a DNA sample and a copy of your credit report to get a table, and then you’d better be ready to cash in your 401(k) when the bill came.

The evening started out normally enough. I arrived at the restaurant an hour before my shift to check reservations, talk to Chef Dan about the evening’s specials, and think of pairings for the prix fixe. Dornin was in his office—a modified broom closet next to the staff bathroom that looked like a hoarder’s den with one, tiny deer trail leading to his desk. In fact, he was always in his office, even when service was slammed, which drove me batshit crazy. I don’t care if you’re General Manager or General Patton—when it’s time to schlep a plate or buff a glass, you step up and do it.

Anyway, I poked my head through the doorway and said, “Hey, Rick,” trying to keep things light and cheery. “What do you know about this Harrison party at eight?”

“Whales,” he replied, not bothering to look up from his purchase orders. “Big whales, like Moby Dick whales.”

“Sweet!” Visions of stockbrokers trying to one-up each other with bottles of Screaming Eagle at five thousand bucks a pop danced in my head. Tips so big they come in a brown paper bag.

“Yes.” Dornin finally looked up at me and grinned like he learned how to do it from an infomercial. “They’ll be in the Veraison Room. With Andrew.”

“What?” I lunged into the tiny office, nearly tripping over a carton of water glasses. “You can’t give it to Andrew!”

“I can give it to whoever I want.” He went back to his purchase orders, feigning a nonchalance that made me want to smack him. “If I want to move Felipe off of bussing and let him pop some corks, I could do that, too.”

Time for a different tack—one that wouldn’t involve me going full-on Hannibal Lecter. “I’m just saying that a party like that comes to a restaurant like this to experience the highest level of service in the world. I’m the guy they’re coming for, not Andrew. I sit for my Master Somm next week, and—”

“You know what you are, Corbett? You’re an overpaid bartender.” Dornin had thin lips and an Adam’s apple the size of Detroit, and it bugged me. “You trained for twenty years to learn how to pull a cork from a bottle and tell people that red wine goes with steak. Whoop-tee-freaking-do. You’ll work the floor tonight, and you can have the Jansen party on the terrace at seven-thirty.”

My left eyebrow started twitching, which happens when I get stressed out. Apparently, no one can see it, but to me, it feels like a two-year-old is digging tiny fingers into my face and stretching it like saltwater taffy. I considered trying the No One Has Experience At Up-Selling Like I Do approach, but this was the third time in as many weeks I’d had such a run-in with Dornin.

I was done.

It was time to talk to Chef Dan.

Most people remember Chef Daniel Foyer from his five seasons on Elite Chef, The Food Channel’s number one show from 1998 to 2002. With a chin so chiseled it could slice a burnt chuck steak and blue eyes that screamed, “Come taste this gazpacho in my bedroom,” he was the prototype celebrity chef. But Father Time had been most inhospitable to Chef Dan, and for the past couple of years the poor soul tried to counteract a rapid aging process by dunking his scalp and Sam Elliott-sized mustache in a fifty-gallon drum of jet-black hair dye. The net effect was so incongruous with the rest of his wrinkled face that I could barely look at him without drowning in the shore break of cognitive dissonance.

Don’t get me wrong, I loved the guy. He was a loyal and trusted friend, and straight-up the most amazing culinary artist of my generation. But if I’d had any money, I would have bought stock in Just For Men and eventually retire on my Chef Dan profits alone.

**My thoughts**
First of all, the cover very quickly captured my attention. It is absolutely stunning. I'm also a sucker for a good vineyard story. I'm sure part of that is my proximity to the Finger Lakes wine region and love for wine tours and tastings. But this book really surprised me.

The story is told in first-person from Corbett's point of view. It's been a really long time since I read a book told strictly from the male's perspective, let alone in the first person. It made me relate even more to this already relatable character. He is just a few years older than me, so a lot of his age-related memories are familiar. I've had a couple of brief stints in the food industry and still have a lot of friends currently working in it. So I can definitely say that he captures that scene pretty well.

And then there's just how he is constantly getting into his own way, stumbling over himself when he thinks things are finally looking up, yet having an unwavering faith that life is going to improve. The situations he gets himself into make you cringe while also laughing out loud. (Be careful reading this one in public!) I say he gives his female counterparts a definite run for their money!

But his foibles make him such a real character. All of the characters I came across had a strong realism about them, despite this being a work of fiction. I could even see myself hanging out with Corbett. The wine alone would be a good reason, but the former grunge band musician is a clincher.

John Taylor also has a way with words. The banter between the characters, the descriptions of the situations and settings really made me feel like I was right there, almost as if I was Corbett myself, going through the whole story. I haven't been this immersed in a story in a while. And it's not an easy one to put down. You never know what is going to happen next! I kind of want to hop on a plane and head to the Napa Valley, too.

If I understand correctly, this is John Taylor's debut novel. If this is an indication of the kinds of stories he has to tell, then I strongly recommend he keep on writing so that I can keep on reading! I loved it!

Thank you to the author and Goddess Fish Promotions for providing me a requested review copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

John Taylor has been writing about wine since 2012, but his meanderings on life began way before that. Born and raised in San Diego, California, John moved to Los Angeles in 1982 to pursue dreams of screenwriting and filmmaking. He attended the University of Southern California, where he majored in Shattered Dreams and False Hopes, with a minor in Getting Gut Punched By Reality. After being handed a degree in Journalism in 1987 as a consolation prize, John dove into a career in music. Because getting gut-punched just isn’t painful enough.

By 1996, John and his band, The Uninvited, had produced four independent albums and became one of the most popular acts in the western United States. This lead to a deal on Atlantic Records, which released the band’s self-titled debut album in 1997. The band had two Top 100 hits, and toured nationally with Dave Matthews, Blues Traveller, Third Eye Blind and many other acts. Their music appeared in the TV shows Beverly Hills 90210 and Party of Five, and in the motion pictures The Commandments and North Beach. The band can also be heard in several HBO Documentaries, video games and on that annoying “One Hit Wonders of The 90’s” station your co-worker always plays on Spotify.

In 2001, John’s vast experience in shattered dreams was once again called into play as the band hung up their touring shoes for good. After a brief but horrifying career in real estate, John got wise and made a career out of his favorite hobby – wine – and has held various sales & marketing positions in Napa Valley since 2011. John’s writing career started in earnest at this point, with blogs, essays and short stories appearing in various publications. John is the author of three novels, including the aptly-titled Pairs With: Life, which will be released by Hurn Publications in September 2020.

Excerpt

I waited another ten seconds, straining to hear anything that would give away the intruder’s location.

Still nothing.

I forged ahead, the snail’s pace turning my ankles into jelly.

One more step to go.

I stopped and crouched up against the inside wall of the staircase. Just earsplitting silence. Gathering myself, I summoned whatever semblance of courage remained in my trembling body.

A second later, my brain issued the command. Okay—it’s go time.

I lunged up toward the last stair, propelling myself into the loft.

At least that was the plan.

My leading foot caught the lip of the top stair, sending me crashing down. The pepper spray sailed across the room as the elbow of my outstretched arm slammed into the wood floor. I didn’t hear the dispenser hit anything, so either the killer caught it, or it landed in the pile of clean clothes on the floor. Either way, not good. Worse yet, the raised bat fell backward, its barrel cracking me on the back of the head before bouncing and rolling down the stairs.

Disarmed and face down, I lay sprawled between the top step and the floor of the room. Before the killer could react, I scrambled to my feet and hit the light switch.

And there he was, his intensity palpable.

I stared into his piercing eyes.

About the Author

Ever wonder what retired business executives do after they have put in years of effort for society and decide it is time to hang up their hat? Perhaps strolling along the country club’s fairway, or lounging on a 50-foot yacht?

Alas, B. T. Polcari is unlike your typical retired executive. Empty nester and Scarlett Knights alum, Polcari is still learning the meaning of “retired” while feverishly typing away on the next new book idea, smashing the fuzz off the little green tennis ball, or blasting bowling pins for a perfect game. Yes there is a boat, but not one that comes with its own crew; this retiree prefers to bustle along a serene lake in a quaint single seat Sunfish sailboat.

Perhaps the only time BTP can be found in a quiet moment is while enjoying the morning company of two family dachshunds over a newspaper and cup of coffee. B. T. Polcari currently resides in Chattanooga, TN and is thrilled to be fulfilling a childhood dream of becoming a published author.

Sleeping With the Enemy by Jackie Barbosa

If you love historical romance, you need to check out the excerpt to Sleeping With the Enemy by Jackie Barbosa before you download your own copy. Follow the rest of the tour for more and then let her know what you think along the way! Plus you get bonus chances to enter the great giveaway.

When Mrs. Laura Farnsworth discovers the blood-stained body of a man wearing the distinctive red coat of the British army, her first instinct is to let dead dogs lie. It has, after all, been just two days since the Battle of Plattsburgh, and the disposition of enemy corpses is hardly her purview. But then the man proves himself to be very much alive by grabbing her ankle and mumbling incoherently.

After almost twenty-five years in His Majesty’s service, Lieutenant Colonel Geoffrey Langston never expected to wake up in heaven, much less being tended by an angel. But when he regains consciousness in the presence of a beautiful, dark-haired woman and with no memory of how he came to be there, what else can he think? Except it’s rather odd for an angel to have an American accent.

As the long-widowed Laura nurses the wounded Geoffrey back to health, the attraction between them heats from a simmer to a boil. Bound by his oath to the British crown, Geoffrey should be working to find his way back to his regiment and from there, to England. Instead, he’s sleeping with the enemy…and thereby committing the crime of desertion if not treason. But then, who’s going to find out?

If only Geoffrey didn’t have a family back home who refuse to take “missing in action” for an answer.

Read an excerpt:
Well, that had been entirely inappropriate!

Flustered and overheated, Laura grabbed the empty wicker bread basket from the center of the heavy oak dining table and flopped into one of the nearby chairs, waving the basket in front of her face as a makeshift fan.

What on earth had come over her in there? One moment she had been engaged in the innocuous—although admittedly intimate—chore of giving a man a shave, and the next she had been seconds from lifting her skirts and riding him like a hobby horse.

Oh, very well, not quite like a hobby horse.

For heaven’s sake, she was a respectable widow with a nearly adult son, not a reckless girl in the first flush of infatuation. The last time she’d felt anything like this mad rush of desire, she had been nineteen and newly introduced to Samuel Farnsworth, the handsomest man she had ever met. Back then, she had not fully grasped the significance of the sensations that flooded her whenever she was with Samuel, just that she wanted more of them. Only after he introduced her to the pleasures of the marital bed did she appreciate how clever her body had been in recognizing her mate. Her only mate. Or so she had believed.

But now the handsomest man she had ever met slept in the bed she’d once shared with her husband, wearing nothing but a nightshirt, and she knew what she was missing. Truly understood the signals her body was sending her.

She wanted Lieutenant Colonel Geoffrey Langston.

I can’t remember a time when I didn’t want to be a writer when I grew up, but there were plenty of times when I wasn’t sure I ever would be. As it turns out, it just took me about twenty years longer to grow up than I expected!

On the road to publication, I took a few detours, including a stint in academia (I hold an MA in Classics from the University of Chicago and was a recipient of a Mellon Fellowship in the Humanities) and many years as a technical writer/instructional designer for a data processing company. I still hold my day job, but my true vocation has always been writing fiction and romance in particular.

I’m a firm believer that love is the most powerful force in the world, which that makes romance the most powerful genre in the world. Don’t ever let anyone tell you otherwise!

Reese Carlisle hates her life. Three years after her father’s arrest for one of the largest embezzlement schemes in history, twenty million dollars is still missing, and the world believes she knows where it is.

Two years after her brother’s death, they still think she killed him.

One year later, she’s still hiding.

When the loneliness is too much, she seeks out strangers for one dark night, no questions asked. She makes up a name, puts on a disguise, and tries to forget.

One night she meets a new man. She tells him her name is Denise, she’s a dental assistant, and she loves dogs. He tells her she’s smart, she’s pretty, she’s funny. Things she hasn’t heard in too long.

Things that are too good to be true…

Read an excerpt:
My father’s appeal is coming up in three months. If it goes well, he could be walking out the front doors of the courthouse immediately after, leaving behind all that chicken ramen for Eddie B. and his prison friends. It should go well; I’ve been paying through the nose for his legal team. Not just his lawyer. His team. All of my dad’s money was confiscated when he was arrested, his assets sold to pay back some of the money he’d stolen. You’d think that would placate people, but not even close. Despite their best efforts, the FBI hasn’t been able to locate the last twenty million dollars, and the treasure hunters of the world—and more than a few lunatics—have been obsessed with it ever since. Because I’m the only Carlisle left to roam the planet, most people are convinced I have the money. Or, at the very least, if I don’t have it, I know where it is. If they knew where I lived, they’d see how stupid they are. But they can’t find me, so they’ll never know.

In the meantime, I’m funding this effort, pretending like everyone else that there’s a way out of the mess. That in three months my father’s name will be cleared and he’ll be free. That’s the tiny scrap of hope that stops me from stepping off the roof every day. Maybe, just maybe.

Because the sentencing wasn’t a surprise. My dad was guilty, after all. The first time I’d seen him after the arrest he’d told me as much. I would have sworn he was innocent until the day I died if he hadn’t whispered in my ear and made me believe.

The Fake Bride Rescue: A K9 Handler Romance (Disaster City Search & Rescue #7) by Jo Grafford

Firefighter Ransom Keller can’t stand the thought of attending his twenty-year high school reunion as a single guy. Folks tend to expect a little more action in the romance department from a former star linebacker and an ex party machine. But a decade in the Special Forces followed by career in fire rescue operations hasn’t left him much time to play Romeo. So he does the unthinkable — he hires an actress to pose as his bride for the weekend.

Serena Chandler is supposed to be working on her doctoral dissertation, not filling in for her bestie’s slightly scandalous rent-a-date service. However, her short-term “husband” seems like a perfect gentleman, so she relaxes and decides to enjoy their weekend trip together while keeping things strictly professional between them. He’s made it clear he’s a no strings attached kind of man, and that’s fine with her.

Their carefully negotiated agreement works right up to the point when a fire breaks out at his alma mater, and she becomes trapped in the gym. Watching the ripped and ready Ransom take charge in a daring rescue operation, however, makes all her best-laid plans go up in smoke. She finds herself scheming with her Mensa-level I.Q. for a way to turn their fake marriage into a real one.

If they survive the fire, of course!

Read an excerpt:
The guy staring back from the photo wore aviator sunglasses. His arms were crossed in a defiant gesture, and his mouth was twisted in a scowl. He certainly wasn’t going out of his way to look datable, which Serena found that appealing.
“He looks ready to hurt someone,” she chuckled.
Iris adopted a smug look. “His name is Ransom Keller. Ex Special Forces. And what he needs is a fake bride at his side during his twentieth high school reunion.”
“A fake bride, huh? That’s a thing?” Serena asked dryly.
“It’s really a thing,” her bestie returned cheerfully. “Remember all that playing pretend we did as children?”
“Um, yeah, and I distinctly recall our husbands being imaginary.”
“Well, it was excellent practice for this.”

The Italian's Unexpected Heir
(The Bartolini Legacy #3)
By Jennifer Faye
Contemporary Romance
Paperback & ebook, 256 Pages
September 1st 2020 by Harlequin Romance

Her baby surprise proves…

…that one night will never be enough!

Reeling from the secrets that have torn his heritage apart, Enzo Bartolini is set on selling his family’s Tuscan vineyard and trying to forget the impulsive, dazzling night he and best friend Sylvie shared in Paris. While the sale moves forward, the thrilling awareness between him and Sylvie is harder to move past…especially when she upends Enzo’s world by revealing she’s carrying his baby!

Read an exclusive excerpt:
“Enzo—” Sylvie waited until she had his full attention and then she continued “—we need to discuss the future of the wedding business. I have some ideas to go over with you.”

This was it. This was further than she’d gotten in the past. She straightened her shoulders and met his gaze, letting him know she meant business. Would he stay this time and hear her out? Or would he make an excuse again?

When he started for the door, he said, “Maybe later. I need to get back to work.”

In the past she’d let him escape. Maybe she should have spoken up before now. Maybe she shouldn’t have let things drag on to this point. But it was so hard when the first time you make love and you think it was great—special even—and the guy thinks otherwise.

At first, she’d cried into her pillow at night. But time had helped soothe her wounded heart—or was it her pride? Perhaps a little of both. Either way, she wasn’t going to be ignored. No one deserved that, not after what they’d shared.

She rushed over to the doorway before he could escape inside. When she stepped in front of him, his widened gaze settled on her.

“Sylvie, this isn’t the time.” His tone was gruff. “I have things to do.”

She settled her hands on her hips. “Not before we talk.”

He sighed. A moment of tense silence passed before he said, “Okay. What do you want to talk about?”

“You.”

This got his attention. His gaze connected with hers, sending a jolt of awareness zinging through her body, but she refused to acknowledge it. Not now. Not like this.

“What about me?” His tone was cool and distant.
