To Catch a Bad Guy
by Marie Astor

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
Janet Maple’s stellar career ended with a layoff and her boyfriend of five years told her that he wants to be just friends. When she lands a job at one of New York’s premier boutique investment firms, Janet begins to hope that her luck is finally turning for the better. Not only is she happy with her new paycheck, but things also seem to be looking up on the personal front, as the company’s handsome attorney expresses keen interest in Janet. However, her euphoria is short-lived, as Janet soon discovers alarming facts about her new employer’s business tactics. When her boss dismisses her suspicions as groundless, Janet finds herself confiding to a cute IT engineer, Dean Snider. The closer she gets to Dean, the more Janet is tempted to break her rule of not dating co-workers, but what she doesn’t realize is that everything she knows about Dean, including his occupation and even his name, is a lie.
Dennis Walker is a top-notch white collar crime investigator who will stop at nothing to put culprits away. When an opportunity for an undercover assignment at one of New York’s premier boutique broker dealers comes up, Dennis jumps at the chance, adopting a persona of geeky IT engineer, Dean Snider. While he may be an ace at his job, years of experience fail him when Dennis meets Janet Maple and finds himself torn between his professional obligations and his personal desires. Will he have to choose between his feelings and duty, or will he find a way to satisfy both?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Read an excerpt:
Janet Maple took a deep breath while she waited for her train to arrive. She was twenty-nine years old, but this morning she felt like a first-grader. The same sickening feeling churned her stomach that she remembered when she first entered a room full of strangers as a five-year-old. She was much older now – a professional with a law degree to boot, and, until recently, with a successful career at the District Attorney’s office, but today none of these things gave her comfort or confidence.
It was not merely the prospect of starting a new job that gave Janet the heebie-jeebies, but it was the fact that she would be working for Lisa Foley. Talk about stirring up old insecurities… Lisa Foley had been the queen ‘b’ in high school. Come to think of it, Lisa was still the queen ‘b.’ Every time Janet talked to her best friend from high school, Lisa never failed to bring back ‘the old glory days’ as she called them. With friends like Lisa, who needed a time machine? One could always count on Lisa’s sharp memory to recall every embarrassing incident of adolescence.
Well, the past is the past, Janet thought. I should be thankful to Lisa for giving me a job. When your former boss also happens to be your ex-boyfriend, the subject of references becomes dicey to say the least. Regardless of how stellar one’s background looks on paper, employers always want references, but Lisa had hired Janet without any references. In fact, Lisa’s phone call had come with unsettlingly perfect timing. Just as Janet was about to give up all hope of white-collar employment, her old friend had come to the rescue. That was another one of Lisa’s remarkable qualities: for as long as Janet had known her, her friend seemed to have a radar for people’s misfortunes. In high school, Lisa was always the first to know who got dumped, who didn’t make the cut on the football team, and whose parents got laid off. So it was not surprising that Lisa knew about Janet’s being “downsized” by the District Attorney’s office, and when she offered her a job as Assistant General Counsel at Bostoff Securities, Janet literally jumped at the chance.

Excerpt Tour for 'Rebel Bride' by Morgan K. Wyatt

Welcome to the Excerpt Tour for 'Rebel Bride' by Morgan k. Wyatt! Each stop along this tour will have an exclusive excerpt for you to read. Thanks for stopping by!

Rebel Bride
by Morgan K. Wyatt

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
Eileen Sewell sparks plenty of gossip by spiteful matrons and their horse-faced daughters that she’d find herself alone due to her picky ways. Of course, she didn’t believe them. Then again, she also didn’t expect to be a mail order bride either. It wasn’t easy snagging a husband who hadn’t heard about her willful nature. Eileen finally gave up hope of finding love, and decided to settle for whatever she’d find out west. If that wasn’t lowering enough, she’d just witnessed the first train robbery. Unfortunately, the outlaws saw her too. Enter Marshal Colt Sheppard, who excels at extracting information from reticent witnesses. His crooked smile and broad shoulders shouldn’t charm her. She’d played this game before, only she never had a worthy adversary. Talk about bad timing.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

EXCERPT:
The man shouted. It sounded like he said, “roll,” which she did since the rails laid on an embankment. Scraggly plants, clumps of dirt, and rocks poked her as she rolled over them. A small squirrel-like critter watched her wide-eyed from his mound as she bounced by.
A large rock stopped her wild descent, a rather pointed rock. Eileen stood, rubbing her aching backside. Her hands smoothed down her body to ascertain everything was still in place. Even better, she’d left the robber behind on the train. She’d lost her hat in her unexpected descent, but amazingly, she managed to hold onto her reticule with its useless, heavy rock charm.
She wasn’t sure why the robber pushed her, but she didn’t appear to be dead yet. Her eyes took in the barren landscape, including her train, which seemed intent on hurrying away. Is that how they treated a war widow? A cow, or more like a half dozen of them, managed to stop the train, but a war widow thrown from the train gets nothing. She didn’t go quietly, she screamed, more than once.
Of course, she’d been pushed from the train in the middle of the plains with no signs of civilization in any direction. Her sister Emily definitively possessed more survival skills than she did. Her obsession with tagging after Gray and Townsend had paid off in learning how to build a fire and fish. Those skills helped her to survive while searching for Gray. Who knew survival skills were also a desirable trait for mail-order brides? She’d make it, somehow. How hard could it be with John out of the equation?

'Lady in Deed' Blurb Blitz

Lady in Deed
by Ann Montclair

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
Piety or passion… What’s a lady to do?
Lady Mary Rutherford believed she would live her entire life as a nun. But when King Henry VIII’s reformist movement makes practicing religion a dangerous proposition, Mary is forced to begin a new life with a family she doesn't know. Worse, she must become lady of the manor, a role for which she feels sorely unprepared.
After a decade of service to his king, Lord Trenton Stanley returns home to find his estate in ruins, his fortune depleted, and his doddering father drooling over Mary—a woman Trent fears has been installed to replace his mother. Trent strives to rebuild his life, but his desire for Mary becomes a serious distraction he can’t seem to ignore.
Though Mary is anxious to prove she’s a worthy lady, she’s tempted by the rakish Trent into deeds most unladylike…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Read an excerpt:
He wanted to reach out and touch her soft yellow hair, move it from her proud shoulders, and hold her closely. Her outrage evoked a strange tenderness in Trent, but also bitterness. Who was this chit, and why did she act like he’d done her harm? They rode in his coach with his driver, and she was, what, a guest, a ward? An unwelcome one if she kept glaring with those icy eyes. Trent couldn’t help it. He actually found her unbelievably attractive, even if her gaze promised no reward.

“And you are my ward? How so? Do tell, my ‘lady.’” He exaggerated the last to reinforce he doubted her assertion. His lifted brow named her a liar. The woman drew a deep and ragged breath, and pounded on the coach top to indicate to James this journey had come to a most unfavourable end.

As the carriage slowed to stop, she flung the door wide, and escaped like a songbird from its cage in one swift movement. The snow had subsided, but the accumulated flakes softened her landing. Her little satin slippers proved no match for the slushy stuff, and her whole body shifted and sagged onto the frozen earth. Trent bounded to her side and hoisted her rigid body into the coach.

James began to clamber down. “What has happened? What have I done?”

“James, on to Stanley Hall. This woman claims it is our mutual destination.”

“She is correct, my lord, and her name is the Lady Mary Rutherford.”

“Roll on!”

Trent set Mary upon the carriage bench with care. She slumped onto the seat and pulled her feet under her like a curled cat with claws finally retracted. With the rich fur he gently placed over her shoulders, she seemed small and vulnerable, but the rosy lips and flashing eyes revealed a fire within. He attempted a conciliatory smile, but her round eyes narrowed, and she sniffed and turned up her nose. She would not be mollified much less appeased. Was the little temptress ward to his father? Trent cringed with embarrassment that he had violated her with much vigour. Passion had clouded his judgment.

“Damn this to hell!” His temper exploded.

Mary flinched and then looked at him with utter disbelief. “Do not speak so. God bless you, my lord.”

Her words sounded more curse than blessing.

“Lady…Mary, is it?”

“Yes,” she hissed. “I am your cousin come to be your ward. Not by choice, I was recently turned out of a nunnery — ”

Trent guffawed. “A nunnery, miss? Truly?”

Lady Mary continued stiffly as if Trent hadn’t spoken. “I assure you my leave was due to the state of the kingdom and not any wrongdoing on my part.” She shook her head as if scolding a naughty schoolboy, and she caught her lower lip between her teeth, staring at him with frank puzzlement. He was struck by the innocent yet sensual gesture.

“Do go on with your winsome tale.”

Mary turned her back, and before he could elicit more information or explain his honest error, the coach stopped again. They’d arrived at his family’s estate.

BLURB:

When the FBI brings Laura Roberts - a quiet, reserved bookkeeper - in for questioning regarding activities at the warehouse where she works, an uneasy Laura resigns her job - only to be attacked by thugs.

Chase Donovan intends to spend a few peaceful days on his boat getting his head together - and finds a woman being assaulted by two men who say his father told them to do it.

Chase doesn’t want to believe his father could hurt anyone. Laura doesn’t understand why she’s a target. Can they learn to work together to discover the truth - before someone dies?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
EXCERPT
Dilemmas and the misconceptions of others have pried Chase and Laura apart. They’re expecting a child and are working to find their way back to each other.
After walking around to her side, Chase opened the door. Caressing her hand, he helped her slide out of the car. She swayed, grabbing the door handle.
“I’m tired,” she stated as if her exhaustion wasn’t commonplace nowadays.
Chase closed the door. Without warning, he slipped his arm under her knees, scooping her up. Her arms encircled his neck.
“You don’t have to carry me,” she said, her resistance a weak one.
Chase valued any excuse. He relished having her in his arms. “Take advantage while you can. Keep it up with those sundaes, by next month I won't be able to lift you."
He started up the walkway.
At the reference to ice cream, she licked her lips. “Chase, you should’ve eaten some. The fudge sauce was the sweetest I’ve ever tasted. It was the best!”
“I appreciated your offered spoonful, but I wouldn’t dare take one tiny bite from you.”
“Oh, I meant you should have gotten your own.”
They laughed, reaching the porch. Laura pressed her head to his shoulder. She fit perfectly in his arms, and in his heart.
“Laura,” he said softly.
Her eyes were closed, her body relaxed against him. A slight smile curled her lips. “Umm.”
“Honey, look at me,” he said, his voice gentle. He loved her. She and the baby were his world.
Opening her eyes, she lifted her head from his shoulder.
“I like when you call me ‘honey’,” she whispered.
Excerpt Tour for 'Smitten at First Sight' by Marie Astor
Smitten at First Sight
by Marie Astor
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

BLURB:

Maggie Robin has been dating the irresistibly good-looking, successful Jeffrey Preston for two years. But when Jeffrey proposes marriage a week after Maggie’s college graduation, she is no longer sure if she wants to marry a workaholic TV producer.

Maggie’s doubts culminate when during a ski trip to British Columbia, she meets Taylor Denton, a handsome, free-spirited big mountain skier who is the complete opposite of Jeffrey. It does not take Maggie long to realize that she has fallen in love with Taylor and she decides to break off her engagement with Jeffrey. But just when she thinks she has found the love of her life, an ill-fated misunderstanding tears Maggie and Taylor apart.

A week later, Maggie is told that Taylor has died in a tragic ski accident; yet, her heart refuses to believe in Taylor’s death. When Maggie returns to Taylor’s native town, she learns that Taylor is indeed alive, but has been seriously injured. Resolved to bring her lover back to life Maggie stands by Taylor’s side, convincing him to embrace life again.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Read this exclusive excerpt!
Maggie’s room at the Owl Lodge was on the top floor, and she immediately fell in love with its slanted roof and modest, but cozy furnishings: a full-sized bed with a firm, springy mattress, an armoire with a TV, and most importantly, an ample-sized writing desk that faced the window with a picturesque view of the mountain.
She was busy editing her photographs from the day before when the blaring ring of the telephone stunned her into jumping up from her chair as she reached for the receiver.
“Maggie?”
Jeffrey’s voice in the receiver caught Maggie off guard, but then she should have foreseen that it would not take long for Bethany to spill the beans.
“Hi, Jeffrey.”
“Why haven’t you returned any of my calls – I left you five messages.”
Maggie remained silent - did it really matter how many messages Jeffrey had left? In her mind no amount of messages could make up for what he did.
“Do you mind telling me what’s going on? One minute we’re in love and the next you walk out on me without so much as a word. Bethany told me that you just upped and left.”
“Did she tell you why?”
“No, she didn’t. Would you care to explain?”
“I think it’s you who has all the explaining to do.”
“For the last time, what are you talking about?” Jeffrey sounded genuinely perplexed.
“I’m not the idiot you think I am – I know that you haven’t changed and I’m not going to be fooled anymore. It’s over, Jeffrey.”
“Maggie, what are you talking about?” Jeffrey fumed.
God, he is a really good liar, Maggie thought. “I saw the photos on your laptop.” Jeffrey never let Maggie use his laptop, claiming that it had important work files on it. In uncharacteristic forgetfulness, he had left his laptop at the hotel, and now Maggie knew the reason why Jeffrey had always been so cagey about the gadget.
“Maggie, it didn’t mean anything.” Even now, Jeffrey sounded perfectly composed. “So I made a few mistakes… No one is perfect. Please, can’t we talk about this?”
“Why? So you could go on making a fool out of me? I don’t think so Jeffrey – we’re through. You can have your ring back when you return.”
“This is not over, Maggie. We’ll talk when I come back.” Jeffrey’s voice rang with steely notes.
“Goodbye, Jeffrey.” Maggie slammed down the phone. The nerve of him - he thinks he can order me around like some puppet…
Maggie keyed in the combination into the hotel safe where she had placed Jeffrey’s engagement ring the night before. Prim and austere, the ring sparkled in the palm of her hand like a tiny piece of ice. She wondered if that was what Jeffrey had in his heart: a sliver of ice, just like the boy in The Snow Queen whose heart turned into a lump of ice after a glass shard from the Snow Queen’s mirror pierced it, but unlike the boy in the fairy tale, no amount of love could ever thaw Jeffrey’s heart.
