Dr. Jude easily lifted Trudy into the carriage and climbed in after her, taking a seat across from her. Then he tapped the wall of the carriage to signal to his driver they were ready to depart.

“This is really nice.” She glanced around the enclosed space, impressed with how comfortable the upholstered seat was, albeit the blue velvet was a tad faded.

“I rented it from the livery,” he confessed with a wry smile. “I have not yet gotten around to purchasing my own carriage and team, though I suppose I will need to, now that I am getting married.”

“Many happy congratulations!” she murmured, though his announcement was unaccountably disappointing. For the briefest of moments, she’d actually hoped Dr. Rory Jude might be single and eligible since she was in the market for a husband, but it was a foolish hope on her part.

A young, handsome doctor like him would have no reason to send for a bride through the mail.
