Welcome to the book tour for Broken Promises by Belinda Boring! Today, she was kind enough to take some time to answer a few questions, so that we can get to know her better. Thanks for stopping by!
What
was the inspiration behind Broken Promises?
Broken
Promises came from a dream I had a few years ago. I woke up with
three very distinct images—ice blue eyes that revealed the person
was converted, violence in the street, and blood. I remember running
up to the man I loved, excited to see him, only to be horrified about
his eyes. I later told my BFF and she suggested I write down
everything. The rest is history.
How many books do you anticipate being in this series?
In
the beginning it was just one—Broken Promises I didn’t like how I
wrapped it up, though. I kept thinking about what would happen if
there was a twist and ten minutes later … I had a three book series
outlined. Book #2 is called Broken Trust and Book #3 is tentatively
called Broken Illusions.
Who is your favorite character and why? Least favorite?
I’m
a HUGE sucker for Quinn … converted Quinn. He was so much fun to
write and some of the things he’d say would make my eyes go wide!
But there’s no denying I love bad boys and I adore his snarky
attitude. He’s a very clear voice in my head and has kind of taken
on a life of his own. Even after the book was released and I started
working on Testing Fate, (#3 in the Mystic Wolves series) he would
distract me. He may seem lost at the moment but Quinn is definitely
worth saving!
Hmmm,
least favorite? I don’t have one with this series. Each character
brings something to the story
You are a prolific writer, with many great titles currently available. What are some of your upcoming releases and projects?
Well,
at the moment I’m working on Testing Fate, the third book in my
Mystic Wolves series. I’m so excited about the storyline and can’t
wait to see what everyone thinks. I love hearing the different
theories people have and what they can’t wait for. A lot of things
will be revealed in the book and the ending makes me squee … and
mwahahahaha evilly!
Other
future projects are Stone Silence and Enchanted Frost. I recently
went on vacation to Las Vegas and did a bunch of research for Stone
Silence. It’s about a young girl who has spent centuries in the
possession of Hades. She bargains for a month of freedom and ends up
falling in love. I’m also working on Enchanted Frost—the sequel
to Enchanted Hearts. I love that story so much and its part of the A
Midsummer Night’s Fling anthology with Lacey Weatherford and Kamery
Solomon. One of the characters kept me up all night crying over how
his part in the story ended. I knew in that moment I needed to give
him his “happily ever after”.
What is it that drives you to write?
There
are a few things but I’d say the strongest is the rush I feel when
I’m writing. I’m addicted to the creative spark that comes when
an idea presents itself, characters start talking, and the story
seems to write itself. I find myself grinning all the time, laughing,
and eager to start each day. It’s very satisfying holding that end
result in my hand—something I created with my imagination and being
proud of it. It’s empowering!
How do you handle writer's block?
*groans*
I don’t like writer’s block. For me it means life has gotten in
the way and stress is stopping me from tapping into my imagination.
It’s hard not to get frustrated because that usually makes it
worst. I try to do other things that will get me through the
obstacle—reading, watching movies or my favorite TV shows, going
for a drive, and talking to my family. I try to get some distance
from whatever is distracting me and when worse comes to worst … I
take a shower! No joke, many chapters and storylines have been
discovered in my shower. I like to say its magic!
Great authors are also great readers. What's on your nightstand and/or Kindle right now?
Right
now I’m reading Saving Grace by Christine Zolendz and All In by
Raine Miller on my Kindle. I’ve got a pile of books stacked on my
bedside table at the moment waiting for when I finish Testing Fate. I
plan on spending a week or two relaxing and I love reading. I have
Amanda Hocking’s Trylle series, Poison Princess by Kresley Cole,
The Vincent Boys by Abbi Glines and Iced by Karen Moning. Oh and
Sweet Evil by Wendy Higgins. So excited for that one!
Aspiring authors always love words of wisdom. What advice do you have for aspiring authors?
One
of the things I’ve learned in the past year is the importance of
getting your book into as many hands as possible. There’s so many
ways you can do it as well—from using social media, contacting
amazing bloggers, and using a variety of effective promotion events.
One thing I’ve been the most grateful for is the incredible support
I receive from readers. They’ve been so instrumental in spreading
the word and it’s humbling. Exposure is key.
How do you make yourself stand out in this competitive genre, especially as an indie author?
I’m
myself. Whether you meet me online or in person, I’m the same and I
love meeting new people. Sometimes that’s a little scary because
I’m shy but it means a lot to me. I’m a reader first and foremost
so I love those “squee” moments when I meet my favorite author.
I’m grateful for the time they give everyone and I try to be the
same. I’m a Facebook addict so I have a lot of fun there—parties,
giveaways, laughing and chatting. At the end of the day, I want
people to know I’m a real person and that I’m approachable. I
think it helps me stand out!
Is
there anything else you would like to share with readers?
Just
thank you, thank you, thank you! This past year has been such an
amazing experience for me and it wouldn’t have happened without
everyone’s support. I feel so fortunate to do something I love and
I’m excited for the future. There are still many stories to
share—lots of swoon and romance. I hope you all continue the
journey with me!
